some คำง่าย ๆ ที่ต้องบันทึกไว้เป็นประวัติศาสตร์
ไม่น่าเชื่อว่า คำง่าย ๆ คำนี้ จะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของความขัดแย้งในสังคมไทย
พอเปิด dictionary คู่ชีพ (COLLINS COBUILD) เพื่อหาความหมาย ก็พบบางอย่างน่าสนใจที่อยากจะเขียนเก็บไว้
some is not usually used with negatives. When some is a quantifier, it is used mainly in statements, rather than questions.
You use some to refer to a quantity of something or to a number of people or things, when you are not stating the quantity or number precisely. You can use some like this in three ways:
- when you are refering to the quantity or number without saying whether it is large or small, because this is not important. Eg: She had a piece of pie and some coffee.... My brother got some more good news this week.... I've got some friends coming over....I have some important things to tell them....'You'll need graph paper'-'Yeah, I've got some at home.'
- when you are saying that the quantity or number is fairly large. Eg: I did not meet her again for some year...She was moving around some distance away... They were having some difficulty in following the plot....He will take some convincing on this.
- when you are saying that the quantity or number is fairly small, but that it is nevertheless greater than none. Eg: There's at least some chance that it will work.... I was gratified to find that I'd had some effect.... That is still true to some extent.
ดังนั้น ประโยคที่เป็นปัญหา "He has some loyalty" ก็สามารถแปลได้ 3 ทาง คือ
- เขาเป็นคนมีความจงรักภักดี (ไม่รู้ว่ามากหรือน้อย แต่ก็มี)
- เขาเป็นคนมีความจงรักภักดีอย่างมาก
- เขาเป็นคนมีความจงรักภักดีอยู่บ้าง ไม่ใช่ไม่มีเลย
แต่ผมสงสัยว่า ประโยคนี้ เกี่ยวข้องกับข้อกล่าวหาอย่างไร เพราะมันเป็นการพูดถึงบุคคลที่ 3 ที่ไม่มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องกับข้อกล่าวหา หรือว่า ไม่ว่าจะเกิดอะไรขึ้น ก็จะ็ขอโยงถึงคน ๆ นี้สักนิดก็ยังดี ขนาดเกิดเหตุที่พนมรุ้ง ยังโยงได้เลย
