What is a LED monitor?
The term “LED monitor” generally refers to a monitor with a LCD panel and a LED backlight. A typical LCD monitor uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as a light source to illuminate the LCD panel. One of the great features of VX2250wm-LED is its ability to dim the backlight completely for pure darkness during dark scenes such as a night shot in a movie. Contrast ratios refer to the ratio of the brightest color to the darkest color. With traditional CCFL backlit displays, contrast ratios are limited to the fluorescent lamp’s ability to dim in order to reproduce darkness. However, with the LED backlight, each LED has the ability to completely shut off allowing for a near infinite ratio of black to white contrast. The end result is true blacks that result in greater overall image quality.
when shopping around and reading reviews of other monitors (especially LED) I noticed several customers complaining that it took a lot of setting switches to get the screen to look right.. with this monitor (at least for me) the picture looked perfect right from the start up. It does let you change the contrast and such, but I haven't dared to mess with them because I think it looks perfect as is.
About the sound.. I watch a lot of movies on my computer and listen to a lot of music, so imagining using a monitor's built in sound system horrifies me, but if you don't care about a high quality stereo system, I listened to the speakers and they'll do just fine.

After 3+ months of great use of the VH242H, I cam home to find a problem that seems to be affecting/afflicting several other reviewers of this monitor - a flickering gray screen that does not seem to abate. I'll be hitting up ASUS service in the next few days, and will update this review or add comments as things progress.
Up until now, I've been very happy with this monitor and would certainly have given it 4 stars. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 star because it did so well. I might downgrade it depending on how ASUS service deals with this monitor.

I've never been a huge fan of HP/Compaq computers; I had a bad experience with a lemon once. I really only got this monitor because I wanted a 3-monitor setup, and the graphics card required one of them to have a native displayport. I must say that this monitor is amazing. The screen quality is noticeably better than the rest of the monitors in our small office (not to mention that the resolution is better than most other monitors in its price-range). My boss was so impressed that I am pretty sure any future monitor purchases will be this model.
Other notes:
It can rotate (I am finding that a lot of monitors these days can't rotate, which does harm its versatility).
It has a carrying handle (It isn't a huge feature, but it is actually quite useful. I mean, it is really hard to carry an LCD monitor unless you use two hands, or you tuck it under your arm).
