H. traubii - Hippeastrum traubii is endemic to San Martín Department in north-eastern Perú. The form doraniae was discovered by Len Doran in one location near Tarapoto where the form is already extinct, due to destruction of natural habitats for agricultural activities and settlement encroachment. H. traubii is a small and very attractive species and the form doraniae is easily distinguished by the deep salmon-pink flowers and dark green leaves with purplish-red margins. H. traubii is closely allied to H. soratense which is endemic to the upper riches of Río Beni in Bolivia. H. traubii forma doraniae is a self-sterile species therefore it can only multiply vegetatively by development of offsets. Cultivation: there is no specific requirement for cultivation of H. traubii forma doraniae, except that bulbs require a hot tropical environment to grow. Bulbs enjoy lots of watering during active growth in summer-time, sufficient light but not direct sunlight. I grow bulbs in a mix of river sand, vermiculite and grit to ensure sharp drainage. The species flowers in March / April in Hongkong. Information by: Luardosertao Origin: Peru Origin: Peru Cultivars: H. vittatum var. tweedianum Origin: Bolivia สวัสดี
