Somluk Pantiboon is a Thai ceramic artist based in Chiang Rai who has exhibited works internationally. Somluk spent a few years as an apprentice with master potter Nakazato Tarouemon 13th at Karatsu in Kyushu, Japan, before returning to his native Chiang Rai to set up Doy Din Dang Pottery outside Chiang Rai city in 1991. Over the years at Doy Din Dang, which means "red clay hill" in reference to the surrounding ridges covered with red soil, he has trained nearby villagers and local students to become skillful potters or pottery workers. In 2012, together with 100 artists, he launched the Khua Silapa Project. Khua means "bridge" in the northern dialect, which here links artists and art to the community and society as a whole. Khua Silapa was opened in mid-2013.
