One of Gaudi's designs  If you don't have an idea "who Antoni Gaudi was?" Then you definitely need to plan a trip in Spain. Anyone who has been to Spain before, know about him. His work is one of the best masterpieces ever created in architectural history. Antoni Gaudi was a Catalan architect who built the building of the Sagrada Familia in 1852-1919 as a part of UNESCO world heritage site. -
Huge Infrastructure Sagrada Familia is a huge infrastructure, which has not been completed yet. The tallest spire of this building is about 170 meters in height and the average height of other spires are about 100 meters.It has taken longer to complete than The Pyramids of Egypt and just 50 years less than The Great wall of China. Philosophy regarding the structure Sagrada Familia was not designed by Gaudi in a haphazard way. He had been thinking very deeply about designing the infrastructure. For instance, he designed 18 spires, each of which represented the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ along with 12 apostles and 4 Evangelists. The tallest one was destined to be Christ and the rest of them were allocated according to their heights. But Gaudi died before its completion leaving an unfinished Basilica. Parts of the unfinished basilica and Gaudí's models and workshop were also destroyed during the war by Catalan Anarchists. -
Controversies on Facades The Holy church consists of three facades- the Nativity Facade, the Passion Facade and the Glory Facade. The Nativity Facade was completed by Gaudí himself while the Passion Facade and the Glory Facade were built much later. When the sculptures of Christ were added in the Passion Facade by Josep Maria Subirachs, many people argued that they were too abstract and took away from Gaudí's style leading to huge controversies.
