Understanding Healthy DoG Food
ก่อนอื่นต้องขออธิบายความหมายของ Healthy/Holistic Dog Food ว่าเป็นอาหารสุนัขในแนวคิดใหม่ ทำจากวัตุดิบคุณภาพเยี่ยม รวมทั้งส่วนผสมและวิตามินที่มีคุณภาพเยี่ยม(ส่วนใหญ่มักเป็นวัตถุดิบและส่วนผสมที่มาจากธรรมชาติ หรือเกรดเดียวกับที่มนุษย์รับประทาน/Human Grade) และให้คุณค่าทางโภชนาการอย่างสมบูรณ์ ซึ่งอาหารในแนวนี้จะทำให้สุนัขได้ประโยชน์จากอาหารที่กินอย่างเต็มเปี่ยม และสามารถมองความแตกต่างที่ได้รับจากอาหารชนิดนี้ได้จากสุขภาพของตัวสุนัขนั่นเอง

ส่วนผสมของแต่ละยี่ห้อหากมองโดยรวมแล้วมีคุณภาพดี อาจแตกต่างกันบ้างในบางสูตร ซึ่งก็ขึ้นอยู่กับการเลือกของเจ้าของสุนัข รวมทั้งข้อจำกัดของอาหาร เช่น Pinnacle : Trout & Sweet Potato เหมาะสำหรับสุนัขโตแล้วเท่านั้น ซึ่งหากคุณมีลูกสุนัขก็ควรจะเลือกอาหารตัวอื่นที่เป็นสูตรสำหรับสุนัขทุกช่วงวัย(All Life Stage) หรือสูตรสำหรับลูกสุนัขโดยเฉพาะ เช่น Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul, Pinnacle : Chicken & Oats, Holistic Blend เป็นต้น

Healthy Dog Food ควรจะทำจากวัตถุดิบที่มีคุณภาพดี โดยมีข้อสังเกตดังนี้
1. ที่มาของเนื้อสัตว์ในส่วนผสมควรเป็นเนื้อสัตว์ล้วน เช่น Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Lamb Meal
2. เนื่องจากสุนัขเป็นสัตว์กินเนื้อ ปริมาณของเนื้อสัตว์ในอาหารควรสูงกว่าปริมาณธัญพืช ซึ่งส่วนผสมหลัก 2 อย่างแรกในอาหารควรเป็นเนื้อสัตว์
3. แหล่งของคาร์โบไฮเดรต(ธัญพืช)ที่ให้พลังงานดี เช่น ข้าว ควรเป็นชนิด White Rice หรือ Brown Rice เป็นต้น
4. แหล่งไขมันหรือวิตามินควรจะมาจากธรรมชาติ เช่น ไขมันจากไก่/ปลา (Chicken Fat, Fish Oil)
5. สุดท้าย ก็คือ สารกันบูดที่เติมในอาหารก็ควรจะมาจากธรรมชาติ เช่น วิตามินซีหรืออี(Vitamin C/E)
