From time to time, I long for a tear-jerking series and I found one. I just finished watching "That winter, the wind blows' starring Jo Insung and Song Hyekyo. Well, do I have to boast about Hyekyo? :P She's the drama goddess. She looks amazingly beautiful with her crying face. ^^
"That winter, the wind blows' is a romantic melodrama which could make me tear up and cried quite a lot. (I'm sensitive to this sort of story. :p) The main male character, Oh Soo, is an orphan and the main female character, Oh Young, is blind. They meet, they learn to know about each other and they fall in love. Everything starts when Oh Soo impersonates Oh Young's brother and when the truth reveals, everything collapses and both of them falls apart even though they love each other so much.
There are a number of beautiful moments between Oh Soo and Oh Young. Their love is pure and true but at the same time the audiences may also sense the bittersweet feeling throughout the whole story. Their story basically tells us that lives of the lead characters are tragic but love can make their lives better and meaningful.
The ending is better than I expected because it ends with a happy ending and not too melancholy like the typical Korean melodrama. It somehow needs a little bit of interpretation that whether Oh Soo and Oh Young are dead or not. For me, I think they are dead and meet each other in heaven where everything around them is blurry and live happily there. It will be best if they both survive but for this kind of the story line, it is impossible to end it like that because it will look unreal. Thus, I accept the ending the way it is most likely to be and I still called it a happy one. ^^
Since I still have a withdrawal syndrome left, I'd like to post the MV with the main OSTs. The first OST is called 'Winter love'. This song has 2 versions but I choose the acoustic version first. The melody in this version is heartbreaking but the lyrics is sweet which go along well with the story.

If the first OST is the reflection of Oh Soo's feeling, another OST, 'Snow flower', would reflects Oh Young's feeling. The chorus is my most favorite part of the song where the lyrics are "Your scent that scatters in the wind. Your low voice that I hear. Come spreading into my heart that it is cold like the winter. Love blooms as the snowflakes."
