Colosseum in Rome is the largest amphitheatre in the world which has the capacity of 50,000 spectators. Anyone who visits Rome and not going to Colosseum may not ever happen. Colosseum is the iconic symbol of Rome which depicts the ancient history of Rome and Italy.
 Colosseum Underground
We all know that the battles between gladiators and animals used to take place in the arena of the Colosseum. But there is no such arena at present. Yes. It is true. The archaeologist totally removed the arena in the 19th century which was never completely rebuilt. Only a small portion of the area was reconstructed for the visitors to have a feeling of gladiators. Visitors can see the hypogeum- the Colosseum underground level of arena floor where the animals and gladiators were kept before the beginning of their performances.
Arena Floor
Many people believed that the arena floor of the Colosseum was destroyed by the archaeologist. But this is not true. In Fact, it was removed in order to have mock naval battles in the water. Sounds amazing?? Yes, this is right. The Roman converted the arena floor in the swimming pull to have the sea battles inside the water.
Though the sea battles were not much popular and it was completely stopped in 1 AD. Although, there are no visible remains but you can still imagine them when inside the colosseum.
