That's What Friends Are For เป็นเพลงที่ผมชอบมากเพลงหนึ่งเคยฟังในสถานีวิทยุเมื่อสมัยยังเรียนมัธยมสี่ชอบแค่ดนตรีที่หวานเรียบแบบมีเสน่ห์ ตอนนั้นยังฟังภาษาอังกฤษไม่เก่ง ฟังและร้องได้แค่ท่อนสร้อย เอาเทปคลาสเซ็ตอัดเพลงเวลาสถานีเปิดกระจายเสียง แล้วผมชอบเอามาเปิดตอนอ่านหนังสือตอนเช้าเปิดเบาๆ ตอนนั้นประมาณตีห้าครึ่งนั่งฟังเพลงเบาๆกับอ่านหนังสือไปด้วย บางทีก็นั่งเปิดไปเจอบางสถานีที่เปิดเพลงสากลแบบไม่มีคนพูดโฆษณาก็มี บางทีก็มานั่งฟังนิทานกฏแห่งกรรมของคุณ ท.เลียงพิบูลย์ที่มีคนมานั่งอ่านให้ฟัง สนับสนุนโดยยาสีฟันวิเศษนิยม...พาไปนอกเรื่องอีกล่ะ
...เพลงนี้เป็นเพลงที่แต่งโดย Carole Bayer Sagerซึ่งมีผลงานเพลงอย่าง When I need you...เพลงThat's What Friends Are For นี้เป็นเพลงตอนจบของภาพยนต์เรื่อง Night Shift(ปี 1982) ร้องโดยRod Stewart....เพลงนี้มาดังจริงๆตอนที่นำมาร้องหมู่ในงานการกุศลหาเงินบริจาคให้กับ American Foundation for AIDS Researchในปี 1985 ด้วยการออกซิงเกิ้ลเพลงนี้ ได้เงินไป 3 ล้านดอลลาร์แถมเพลงนี้พุ่งขึ้นชาร์ท4สัปดาห์ติดกันในเดือน มค.1986.ในเวอร์ชั่นนี้มีนักร้องคุณภาพอย่างDionne Warwick,Gladys Knight, Elton John และStevie Wonder.เสียงฮาร์โมนีก้าก็เป็นฝีปากของStevie Wonder
นอกจากนี้เพลงนี้ยังได้รางวัลแกรมมี่ในปี1986รางวัลเพลงร้องป๊อปที่ร้องเป็นกลุ่มและคนเขียนเพลงนี้ก็ได้รางวัลเพลงแห่งปีไป
