Rafa Nadal receives the Universal Spaniard 2009 Award @^^@
The man who conducted the conversation did a great job, he really understands him and he had some earlier interviews with Toni and Rafa. Listening to him speak in Spanish is a totally different experience to just reading the words. He talks about his parents a lot, how they never forced him to do anything including tennis. He tells a story about how once as a kid he lost a match against someone who was much worse then him and he cried in the car on the way home and they told him that if he's not happy with tennis he should do other things, go fishing or to the beach and that he shouldn't practice that much. Then they took him to eat gambas so he stopped crying.
He also talks and jokes about Toni, his influence, how he always knew everything he did and told him was for his good but how he can't critic him that much these days cause he could be fired. That's a joke of course.
He talks about Wimbledon 2008 and especially about one point in the 3. set tie break when he was up 5-2, he had 2 serves and he said to himself to be aggressive (something he always does since being a kid), 1. serve was out and then between the 2 serves in his mind he knew he was gonna make a double and then he did. He says this never happened to him. This was also in relation to his mentality as his biggest weapon. He mentions Toni sleeping during one of the breaks and how during the second break he told him he better not be sleeping again. He told Toni not to worry and that he's confident he'll win.
He's happy with his team and very lucky to be surrounded by very good people in the first place and that he knows he only needs to focus on tennis since they take care of other things. Of course he knows about everything they do but it's not something that should impact his focus on tennis.
In the beginning he talks about the divorce, how that was the first time he was faced with a big private issue like that. His family was always very united and still is and it was a big change, he needed to accept it and get used to it little by little. He wanted to make things better but then he realized he needs to find his place, his path which is focusing on tennis, keep playing, winning and have illusions.
They also talk about his life in Majorca, how he's lucky people there treat him the same, he doesn't hide and he's not bothered about autographs and stuff. He was asked about his grandfather - the orchestra conductor by an older lady. He thinks music is the reason he's still happy, he still listens to opera and classical music.
That's all I can remember now but there was much more.
NUMBER 2 OF THE WORLD RECEIVED THE AWARD 'SPANISH UNIVERSAL 2009' BY THE INDEPENDENT FOUNDATION
Nadal: "The year has been very good athletically, but we must take into account other factors"
* He said that his season has been very good athletically, but acknowledges that is more complicated than it should because of injuries · confessed that his priority now is the Davis Cup final, but before is playing in Paris and London
What they have in common Camilo Jose Cela, Julio Iglesias and Rafael Nadal? All of them have been awarded by the independent Foundation as 'Universal Spanard of the year'. The 2009 has been to the Balearic tennis player, noted for its sporting successes and its excellent performance off the court. "I do not see it that way, but people tell me I'm a model to the young. If so, tell them to strive to the fullest and enjoy what they enjoy most," he said in a press conference that gave for long.
And is that Rafa did not 'but' in any cover any topic related to the world of the racket (and even had words of understanding for 'his' Real Madrid). Nadal spoke of the Davis Cup, the schedule, the season, and the controversial confession Agassi ... Regarding his physical status, Manacor said that during the last ten days trained "without any problem" and since the 1000 Shanghai Masters is at "100%" to tackle the final part of the season, where he will play Paris Masters 1000, the Master's Cup in London and the Davis Cup final in Barcelona.
In this respect, Rafa said that the final of the Davis is now his "priority" for three reasons: "I was away in the final in Mar del Plata last year" because Spain has "a good enough team to win the title "and" This is an opportunity to represent and defend your country. " On opponents that have the 'Armada' of 6 to 8 December in Barcelona, Rafa called the Czechs as a "very good team" and said "the first day we should try to get good results because if we lose the first point, the end is really complicated. " On the controversy arising about the venue for the final, world No. 2 said he has not gone the good vibes among members of the selection: "I hate to talk about others, I speak of my statements, which were not to criticize to anyone but to give my opinion. All I said was that we should worry about playing and not opinion. This is an issue of the Spanish Federation and International and not the players. "
The number 1 has never been a goal Nadal admitted that despite being relatively close to Roger Federer, still falls short of regaining the number 1 in the world rankings, "I'm not far at points, but to do this because I still have a difficult year-end tournament with are still left." The Spaniard said he believes that so far in their sporting year has been "more difficult than expected" but "very good athletically speaking. I go every week and if you are, you are. What I care is to be well ready to keep winning titles, "he said.
Asked about the surprise statements Andre Agassi, in which the U.S. admitted having used drugs. "I think is fatal," said Nadal, who said he did not understand "why say that now because he is retired, is a way of hurting the sport without any sense. If at the time the ATP covered the topic of Agassi and yes I passed other seems a lack of respect for all sports and from my point of view I want, I believe and hope that none of this is happening now. I think we have a clean sport and I am one who it want it to be, though I disagree with forms. The cheaters must be punished and if Agassi was a cheater in his day should have been punished, "
