The world No.1 was the guest of honour at the official presentation for the spring Barcelona clay event, Trofeo Godó, which he won for five straight years from 2005 to 2009. Speaking about missing out on winning 4 Grand Slams in a row (a feat that hadn’t been done since Rod Laver did in back in 1969 and that would have made him one of the best players in history), the 24 year-old publicly admitted he cried in the locker room straight after his dream collapsed in the third game of his quarter-final against compatriot David Ferrer. "I was crying in the locker room. I [hated that I had] to go out of the tournament," Rafa said yesterday. "Last year, I had to do it and it was something I didn't want to repeat. But from the third game I knew I didn't have a chance to win. David was playing fantastic and I wasn't able to run enough to rise to the level to beat him." But yesterday there were no tears - broad smiles in fact - as Rafa was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year at a glitzy ceremony in the United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi, an award he described as the "most important in world sport".
