เมื่อวันที่ 18 กุมภาพันธ์ 2568 สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครนิวยอร์กได้จดทะเบียนสมรสให้แก่คู่สมรสคนไทยคู่แรกในสหรัฐฯ ตามพระราชบัญญัติสมรสเท่าเทียม หลังจากที่กฎหมายดังกล่าวมีผลบังคับใช้เมื่อ วันที่ 23 มกราคม 2568 ในโอกาสนี้ น.ส. สมใจ ตะเภาพงษ์ กงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครนิวยอร์ก ร่วมเป็นสักขีพยานในการจดทะเบียน พร้อมกล่าวอวยพรเเละจัดงานเเสดงความยินดีให้แก่คู่สมรส โดยมีข้าราชการเเละเจ้าหน้าที่สถานกงสุลใหญ่ฯ เข้าร่วมด้วย
การบังคับใช้กฎหมายสมรสเท่าเทียม เป็นหนึ่งในนโยบายที่รัฐบาลให้ความสำคัญ เเละแสดงถึงความมุ่งมั่นของไทยในการเป็นสังคมที่เปิดกว้าง เท่าเทียม เคารพในสิทธิมนุษยชนเเละความหลากหลาย โดยไทยเป็นประเทศเเรกๆ ในทวีปเอเชียที่ผ่านกฎหมายสมรสเท่าเทียม
สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครนิวยอร์ก ขอแสดงความยินดีกับคู่สมรส ทั้งนี้ คนไทยในสหรัฐฯ ที่ประสงค์จะจดทะเบียนสมรสตามพระราชบัญญัติสมรสเท่าเทียม สามารถติดต่อสถานกงสุลใหญ่ฯ เพื่อ

"Congratulations on the First Thai Same-Sex Marriage Registration in the U.S."
On February 18, 2025, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in New York officially registered the first same-sex marriage of a Thai couple in the United States under Thailand’s Marriage Equality Act, which came into effect on January 23, 2025.
On this historic occasion, Miss Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, served as a witness to the marriage registration, congratulated the couple, and hosted a celebratory event in their honor. The event was attended by officials and staff of the Royal Thai Consulate-General.
The enactment of the Marriage Equality Act reflects the Thai government’s commitment and dedication to advancing human rights, equality, diversity and inclusivity for all. Thailand is proud to be among the pioneering countries in Asia to recognize same-sex marriage.
The Royal Thai Consulate-General wishes to congratulate the couple on this memorable event.
