A week ago we have been sailed to Lake Macquarie from our place where is less than an hour drive from home....But instead of driving we chose to sail to Lake Macquarie which requires at least 5 hours if there is a lot of wind on the way and it can be up to 7-8 hours if there is no wind at all.......555
The purpose to go up there because of the saling club near where we live who is we are a member has organised this trip. The trip will start before starting Twilight Sailing this Summer season. So there were 7 boats went a long with us. We left home about 6am and took the boat to the jetty at the sailing club. Filling the water and also picked up some friends who wanted to come with us on this trip. There were a couple and a gentleman who have been sailing with us since we got the boat(2 and a half years).
On the way to Lake Macquarie was so great ,lots of wind bringing us north..it is Southerly as it always does in Summer.
On the way to Lake Macquarie...In the ocean...There were some boats raced to Newcastle, they got the spinnaker on....nice color.
A big ship was wating to be loaded coal to overseas maybe China or Japan or ohters who knows.
We got to the entrance of Lake Macquarie at about 2:30pm then we had to wait for the bridge to be opened as it is so low so we won't be able to go into the lake without the service of them......555 We wait for half an hour as the bridge will be opened every hour until 5pm and nomore. On the way to the lake is very shallow....It is very dangerous for some boats (big boats) as they could hit the ground......but for us just had to becarreful and luckily it was high tide at that time when we got there so the water was a bit high too.
This is the map of Lake Macquarie... At your right hand side is the ocean and have a look at Swansea channel that is where we crossed the birdge and came into the lake..
We spent all week on this lake...it is a very pretty and big lake...
After we got into the lake we didn't wait to sail a bit on the lake. It was so excited to be able to sail on the big water but still inland. We worked a bit harder than ususl as it was so windy but we loved to do it.
We sailed in there until 5pm and now time to drop our friends home...They just came with us to be a good company and enjoyed what they like by sailing here with us and had a nice dinner together then they had to go home. Someone came to pick them up at the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club.
Here are some pictures where we spend 2 nights here fixing our water hose and filling the water before we went to somewhere elses to stay for the rest of the week.
Lake Macquarie Yacht Club...
Here are my friends....
After we spent a couple of nights tided up at the Yacht Club now time to find somewhere else to anchor because the forcast said it would be a southerly come along if we tided pu at the yacht club we couldn't be sleeping well....555
So we decided to go somewhere safe. We sailed around the lake...Each day we spent about 7 hours sailing, that made me so tired. It was hard work for me and of course for everybody else who is not that big....555
We have been around the lake...but you know what...you can't just spend a whole day on the lake to be able to see every corner but you have to spend at least a week to see everyting.
Have a look at the map then you will know how big the lake is...I tell you that we were unable to go every corner or everywhere, where we wanted to go as we had just one week up there....hehehe
These are some pics that I took for you but I had no time to take as many as I wanted as I had to work hard...555
This is our peaceful moment...
Or friend from the sailing club...they were going to somewhere. We saw them one morning on the lake..
One of the place where we stayed at...just anchored..!!!
It was southerly wind and there was the storm warning....so I got some of the weather pictures...555
Sunset..
The another scary night.. big storm brought some red sky.
It was stormy night and we got a good spot so the friends from the club came to anchored near by us. and the picture is so blur as it was so windy....hehehe
We spent last night on Lake Macquarie at the yacht club again as we have to get up ealy to be able to get to the bridge by 8am as well as at the time will be a high tide so we can get out of the lake safely.
Here we were wating for the bridge to be opened for us to go out to the ocean and go home....
Bye Bye...Lake Macquarie....
We will be back agian next year if we don't have any plan to go seriously cruising somewhere else.
