A glimpse of the blogger's identity
Hello, I'm Phaisit Boriboon. I am originally from Chiang Mai, the second largest city of Thailand. It is located about 700 kms from the Thai capital, Bangkok, in the northern part of the country.
I grew up in a village called Baan Kong Sai which is about 7 kilometres from the city centre of Chiang Mai. My father at the time was a janitor and my mother was a housewife. I have three elder brothers and two elder sisters. I am the only person in my family who got university degrees. It is something that makes me proud.
My education began at the school of my village- Wat Kong Sai School. I went on to a secondary school in my district, Sarapheephitthayakhom School. I passed a university entrance examination arranged for the seventeen northern Thai provinces to study at the Faculty of Associated Medical Science, Chiang Mai University. But I found that I didn't like sciences as much as languages, so I quit medical sciences, and decided to sit another entrance examination nationwide. I was successful to pass the exam to study at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, the oldest university of Thailand located in Bangkok.
I first chose to study Japanese as my major, English as minor, but unfortunately I had to drop my study for one semester in the second year. I decided to change my major to English after returning to university, and chose Spanish as minor. It took me four and a half years to complete my bachelor's degree - BA (English). It was a bit rough but I finally did it.
I had changed many jobs in private companies during the two and a half years or so of my first encounters with the professional world before winning a scholarship from the Royal Thai goverment to study for MA (TESOL) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia in order to become an English teacher. It took me about one and a half years to complete the second degree.
I had taught English at Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University for three years before having been selected for a PhD scholarship from the Royal Thai government. I am now the third-year PhD student in applied linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, UK.

I hopeyou don't mind my calling you by your nickname. My name, by the way, is Tim, not ติ๋ม, ทิม.
In case you are wondering, am writing you in English for two reasons :
1) I can't type Thai to save my life, just yet..as I am learning...very impatiently...as it is so hard and there is no inspiration whatsoever.
2) Over the years of trying to learn to type in English I have finally come to a point where the head, the hand and the heart can work together in harmony.
Please come and visit my coffee room which had its trial run on the 3rd and, fingers crossed, I hope to have a house warming around the 12th.
As we share the same path on this Earth teaching English I have confidence that this is a beginning of a beautiful relationship.
Tim
