Who am I?
My name is Krisda, hence my English name "Kris." I am currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Houston, Texas. I am specialised in 1) Discourse and Stylistic Analysis, 2) Old English Language and Literature, and 3) English Syntax and Grammar.
I have been an English major since my undergraduate studies. I earned a BA in English language and literature from the University of Oregon, Eugene (2000), and an MA in English from Arizona State University, Tempe (2001). Subsequently in 2002, having been awarded the Nattinger Fellowship, I pursued another MA in TESL at Portland State University, where I also assisted my professor in a case of linguistic discrimination in which a Cambodian immigrant was denied promotion based on his English proficiency.
In 2003, I was admitted to the Ph.D. program in English language and literature at the University of Washington, Seattle, and upon admission, I was offered a teaching assistantship. My responsibilities, apart from showing satisfactory progress toward my degree, include designing an undergraduate writing course in accordance with the outcomes set forth by the department of English and teaching the course each quarter.
After my dissertation defense in June, 2007 and my doctorate degree, I have moved to Houston, Texas to begin teaching in Fall, 2007.
Anyone who is interested in reading about my first-hand experience on the job market in academia in America is invited to read my anecdote also posted on this blog.

Cheers!
