2 days in Paris: A romantic city
Paris is the start of my long holiday before I am going back home for good in August. Although I may have a chance to come back to England and Europe some days in the future, this will definitly my last trip as a student: stay on a budget and behave like a student. It is a good fun when travelling as a student or a backpacker. This trip was kindly planned and organised by P' Nhum, which start from France, Switzerland and finishing in Germany. I will continue to Netherlands and Italy with the other group of friends.

P' Nhum and I went to apply for Visa on 4th July, we fly on 8th. We have got exactly what we asked for. On the 8th July, very early morning 4.30 am we went to catch a coach to Heathrow airport fly by Air France to Paris. We arrived around 11ish, find our way to the Hotel in which we have to go to Gare de Nord first to change from RER to Metro line 4. Our hotel is very near to the metro station. The rooms was not bad at all compared to the price we paid about 20 pounds a night. We will stay here for 2 nights: 8th and 9th, final matches for World Cup 2006. France was in for the final match, will complete with Italy on 9th. Wow! we will be in the atmosphere of world cup!

On the 8th, after we checked in the hotel, P' Nhum and I went out for lunch and sightseeing in Paris. We went to Mongmart first as it is very closed to our hotel and I would like to buy a picture. However, I did not get one because this time I did not like nay of them, too bad! Last time I like one of them but I have no time to buy it. We then took metro to see the Great Arch of la Défense, the modern area of Paris. If you look straight from the arch you can see the Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees from here. Around the arch, there are many modern sculptures.

We then went to Champs Elisee area, Grand palace, Petit Palace, walk along the street by the river Sain. Today we did not visit any museums or any attractions because we were waiting for another 4 members from Thailand who will arrive around 9 pm. We walked along the street till 8 pm, we then get back to the hotel waiting for them.

One good thing for summer in Europe is the Sun sets after 9.30 pm. Although it is very hot, sky is very clear.

Here some photos I have got from 2 days in Paris:

After the other 4 arrived, P' Ping, P' Kae, P' Vi, and P' Boon. Three of them are Pharmacists, so we will have no worry about medicine.

After they arrived, we went out for a night walk around 10.30 pm, go to Champs Elisee, visit the the Arc de Triomphe, however, it was closed by that time we arrived. We tooks a few photos with the arch. We then went back to the hotel, as the last metro is 12.30 am, so we make it just in time. We had dinner at a Kebab shop in front of our hotel because it was nothing else open. Everything was closed by 8-9 pm. And to night Germany won 3-1, get the 3rd place in the world. Not bad hah!

We went to bed quite late just after 2 am, and tomorrow we have to wake up very early to be ready by 7 am to go to Vasille Palace.

In the morning, in girls room, no one was awake till 6.30 am, guys came to wake us up! We tried our best to be ready as soon as we can, went out by 7.30 am, get RER (yellow) tickets for free because we travelled with Euro Pass. We used the tickets however, because P'Nhum and I came earlier, we have bought Paris Visite pass that allowed us to use any of the transports with in 2 days. We went to the Vasille arriving aroung 9ish, door open at 9.00 am. The queue was quite long, about a hundred before us. There were so many gate starting from A, B1, B2, etc. I was not sure which one we should queue because we have got the paris visite pass, which may allow us to pass through the queue. Unfortunately we have to queue with the long queue because the pass is not valid here. But we have got a good suggestion from the security, he suggested us to go to gate C, which is the same with A but it is on the west side of the building.

It was actually hide away in the building, no one can see it if you do not know. Entrance C is in the opporsite wing of the building leading to small apartments, which you can use the ticket to get in other area with out queuing i.e. pass through entrance B for the main apartments.

Today there is a concert in the Garden, so the ticket were sold in a higher price including the concert. However we have no time to stay and watch the concert. So we decided to visit only the palace itself. Inside, it was grand, very bueatiful, however, very crowned too. At first we planed to spend only 2 hours here, it ended up to be first half of the day.

Around 12ish we catch RER to Gare de Lyon station to book train tickets to Nice for tomorrow. The RER took arounf an hour to reach the station. We stucked in the queue and finish issueing the tickets for six of us around 2.30 pm wow! such a very long queue. The guy who served us close right after we finished.

After that we went out to find somthing for lunch, wow, we end up in a Chinese restaurant that have two guys speak Thai. We have got some special menu for lunch! Thanks god!

We finished lunch around 3.30 pm went to De Lourve, because it is Sunday, the museum will closed at 6 pm, we rushed through the highlight of the museum: Monalisa, Married couple, Venus, the unfinished sculptures, etc. End up at the Egyptian rooms that I would like to complete my Egyptian things since when I was in Egypts many things were said to be kept here in Lourve, I would like to see them, just to complete my knowledge. We were in Lourve untill they closed. We then went to Notredame Cathedral, it is Sunday, the service was undergoing. French people came out, dress up to cheer their team by then around. The game will start at 8 pm. It was a wonderful moment. We were a but hungry and thirsty, so we went to buy some drinks. I bought myself a crape made by a Thai girl, surprise!

We were here till 8ish, we then walked to a metro station around that area pass many pubs by then Sedan scored for France. Yippy! that was my feeling at the time. We arrived Eifel tower and climb up the top around 9ish we stayed up there untill sun sets, and light up. It was very stunning moment. Unfortunately my camera run out of battery, but I took photos by my mobile phone, which I did not upload yet.

We stayed up till late 10ish, the game was not finished yet. We knew the result when we were in the metro going back to the hotel. France lost to Italy. The whole city was very quiet, totally different from previously. I think we better go back to the hotel as soon as we can before anything bad happen. We end up at the same restaurant for dinner again, but I gave up my dinner as I am still full from crape. Good night! Paris, tomorrow we will go to Nice from the early morning 5 am. Oh no!
