A long weekend in Cornwall, UK
A long weekend in Cornwall: 29th-31st May, 2006

On 29th of May, 2006, it is a start of long weekend in UK. My friends and I decided to drive to Cornwall, South of England. The day started at 6.30 am, picking all of us up from various places in Bath. Then we, actually, Kaz, drove us to out first destination, Eden Project. The traffic was very bad, we stucked on the road from 7 to 12ish, it took us around 5 hours to drive, which normally it should be no longer than 3 hours. When we arrived, it was not too many people in the Eden project. However, it took us another half an hour to buy tickets, with student consessions we end up paying 6 pounds per person.

This is actually my 2nd time visiting Eden project. My first time was two years ago. The first time, there was in the late spring, early of May, so a lot of flowers ... so colourful. However, this time, it is staring of Summer, it was green, not many flower left in Eden Project. But actully, it is good to see the different between colours and greenish of Eden project. This time, my purpose is only to see the new building, the Core, it was contructed two years ago during my first visit, it was finished late last year. It is utilised as exhibition halls similar to science museum. I like it though!

After we finished the Core, we then porcessed (walked) to the two Biodomes: the Warm Temperate regions (the Mediterranean, South Africa & California), and The Humid Tropics (Rainforests and Tropical Islands). The two domes are similar to what I have seen last time apart from some improvements. The finniest one is the "Malaysian traditional house", my malay friends sais "it is not a malay house even in the past", but I think it is similar to Thai huts in the past. They even got the Thai sugar bag labelled in Thai cover the house.

One thing I would like to recommend to everyone who going to Eden project is try the ice creme and scone there, it is one of the best. But the foods was not really good.

Aroung 2.30 pm, we decided to go Charlestown Shipwreck Centre, it was only 45 mins drive from Eden project, with trafic. We arrived there just after 3 pm, park and then go for walk. As it was not really a sunny day at all, the town was quiet, but the scenary was lovely. Not many ship were there, but the view from the cliff to sea was very beautiful. We decided not to enter the museum as no one interested in.

Well it seems not many things to do here in the shipwreck, but we spend over an hour here, wow! Around 4 pm, we discussed where we would like to go next, however, we can't get in any other places as the last admission is 4.30 pm and the most important thing is the driver was very tried! We decided to go to the flat we rent for this weekend. A big think to Pear, who arranged the accomodation. It was very cheap, £140 for the weekend for 5 of us.

From the shipwreck to truro, our place, it took us aroud 45 mins, I had some nap, about 30 mins. Then we found out that the GPS took us to in a middle of somewhere, which is on the way to accomodation, not the accom itself. We then have to search for the place from the direction they gave us. What's a useful technology!

We arrive the accom just after 5 pm, not too bad though! We then check in. After checked in, we decided that we will have dinner in our place. Lee and Yati cooked for us. it was a wonderful dinner, both of them are really good cook! A really really big thanks for Lee and Yati to cook for us. We went out shopping at Asda, we bought load of stuffs, but it turned out really cheap only 30 something poungs.

Wow! what's a day, here is today pictures:

Lee and Yati spent hours cooking for us, I was talking to Paul on phone, Pear and Kaz were waiting in Living room. Well, I was on phone for longer than an hour! wow! Dinner time! Kaz came to call me to eat! ok, I hang up.

The foods were Chinese Malay foods, as Lee and Yati are Malaysian. As I said the foods were wonderful, we have got the bext chef with us. After the meal, we sat there and chatting till late, discussed about tomorrow plan and departure time. We went to bed around midnight.

One of my problem was I have to sleep on the flooe, so I came out to sleep in the living room using my sleeping bag.

The next morning, Sunday, the plan for today is St. Ives, Landends, St. Micheal Mount, and Minack theatre. My feeling was a bit better, My heart beat was not too bad but a lit to fast. We woke up, having breakfast (of course cooked by Lee and Yati). Then we started out journey around 9 am, our first destination was St. Ives - Tate gallery, which open at 10 am. Surprisingly, there was no traffic at all, we arrived St. Ives around 9.30 am, spend half an hour walking along the beach, taking lots and lots of photos.

St. Ives pictures: see how wonderful it is:

Just after 10.00 am, we went in Tate Gallery, there was exhibitions of two artists, one was for St. Ives paintings, another one was for abstract paintings. One of the abstract painting inspire me a cool final sentence of my thesis! I was really happy. We went up to the rooftop of the Gallery, it gave us a presant view of St. Iyes beach. What's wonderful & sunshine day! Only a bit too windy!

After St. Ives, the plan was landends, but according to the GPS, it was better to go to St. Micheal Mt. first, we then drove from St. Ives, only half an hour, arrived St Micheal Mt, at a good time because we can walk to the Mt, do not have to take ferry. Wow, it was a beautiful one, the secenario of beach, sea, and castle. Spending a long time there finishing up around 2 pm. St. Michael Mt photos:

We then went to Minack Theater, it was the best place to visit in this trip. Amphitheater with an ocean view, grand. Lucky us that they were practice a play, we had a chance to sit down and watch the practice, something related to Bangkok! But the story was not good for Bangkok at all, but a bit of experience.

Oh, one thing, before we get in the theater, there is a group of tourists, viewing the beach down the Minack, and said wow, "it looks like Thailand". My friends did ask me, is it true, I said "of course not, Thai beach is much more beautiful". Minack Theatre photos: the most beautiful place we visited in this trip.

We finish the Minack almost 5 pm, drove to Landends, it took only 15 mins drive. So, we were there taking photos, everythings was closed on Sunday. The view was really wonderful, only a bit too windy. We spent arounf an hour here. Opps! today we did not have lunch!

The landends photos:

We were hungry, and we were thinking about dinner, Lee and Yati will cook again. So we would need some more foods, unfortunately, everything was closed! no supermarket at 6 pm. But we have something left over from yesterday that we need to finish anyway. So, Lee and Yati have made us foods from the leftover things, but it was another wonderful meal!

As usual, we had dinner, chatting, taking, and then plan the tomorrow trip. Our last day in Cornwall! We then went to bed.

The next morning, we woke up and went to National Seal Sunctury, according to my request. It was not as big as I expected, but not too bad. But it was a long walk.

After seal sunctury, we went to Trebah garden, it was another good one, beautiful garden in cornish styles. Having a long walk, a good fun, and come up with hungry. We had lunch here, fish and chips! I also have cornish scone here too, it was good one too. Trebah garden, the garden of dream!

After that we have a problem of GPS was running out of battery, Kaz had to go back to the car first to charge the battery, left us in the shop for 10 mins.

After that we went to a castle, it was not a big one, but the scenary was cool! I like the 2nd orld war cartoon drawings it was really funny. After we finished, it was just after 5 pm. It is time to drive back to Bath.

On the way back, we stoped at Jamica Inn for dinner, it was not bad, but not good as expected. there is no scone! Too bad. After we finished dinner, we continued our journey back to Bath. Seeing the sunset together in the car, arrive Bath at almost Midnight.

It was a wonderful trip, five of us: Knot, Pear, Yati, Kaz and Lee. Knot: a great planer (I said for myself), Pear: accomodation sorting & a fine photographer, Yati and Lee: really really good cooks. Kaz: a very good driver.

I am waiting for photos from everyone, I will update the pictures as soon as possible (perhaps in my Gallery)
