(Before a Meal-2)
ในการรับประทานอาหารโดยทั่วไปที่ไม่ใช่ในงานเลี้ยง หลังจากที่นั่งโต๊ะเรียบร้อยแล้ว พนักงานของร้านอาหารจะนำรายการอาหารมาให้ แต่หากไม่มีการนำเอารายการอาหารมาให้ ผู้ที่เป็นเจ้าภาพควรจะเอ่ยปากขอจากพนักงาน

การขอดูรายการอาหาร

เมื่อได้รายการอาหารมาแล้วก็เป็นมารยาทที่เจ้าภาพจะให้ความช่วยเหลือแขกเกี่ยวกับรายการอาหาร โดยเฉพาะในกรณีที่แขกเป็นชาวต่างชาติและบรรดาอาหารในรายการนั้นเป็นอาหารที่แขกไม่มีความคุ้นเคยมาก่อน

การช่วยอธิบายรายการอาหาร

ในการอธิบายอาหารจานต่างๆนั้นการเปรียบเทียบกับอาหารที่มีรูปร่างลักษณะคล้ายๆกันซึ่งแขกมีความคุ้นเคยอยู่ก่อนแล้วจะช่วยให้เข้าใจได้ง่ายขึ้น โดยอาจใช้คำพูดต่อไปนี้

It’s similar to ... .
It’s the same as ... .
It’s very much like ... .
It’s made of ... .
It’s got ... in it.
It’s cooked with ... .
It’s a sort of ... .
นอกจากนี้แล้วคำพูดที่ใช้อธิบายส่วนประกอบ วิธีการปรุง รสชาติของอาหาร และวิธีรับประทานจะช่วยให้ทำความเข้าใจได้ชัดเจนยิ่งขึ้น

ส่วนที่เป็น ... นั้นหมายถึงให้เติมประเภทของอาหารลงไป เช่น

วิธีการปรุงอาหาร

It’s baked/boiled/roasted/steamed/grilled/stir-fried/etc.
รสชาติของอาหาร

It’s hot/spicy/sweet/etc.
It tastes hot/sour/sweet/spicy/salty/etc.
It tastes like goulash.
วิธีรับประทาน

It comes with /a sauce/a dressing/etc.
It’s served with a roll/hot cake/etc.
You eat it together with cream and jam.
It goes well with white wine.
ในบางครั้งแขกอาจจะถาม ขอคำอธิบายหรือคำแนะนำจากเจ้าภาพเกี่ยวกับอาหารที่จะสั่งด้วยคำพูดต่อไปนี้

การให้คำแนะนำเรื่องอาหารที่น่าลองรับประทาน อาจใช้คำพูดต่อไปนี้

และอาจให้เหตุผลตามไป เช่น

It’s usually good here.
They serve good ... here.
It’s very good/delicious.
I think you’ll like it.
It’s a local speciality.
ซึ่งหากอีกฝ่ายหนึ่งเห็นด้วยก็จะกล่าวว่า OK. I’ll have/try that. แต่ถ้าไม่อยากจะลองหรือไม่ชอบอาหารที่ได้รับการแนะนำก็อาจจะพูดว่า

No, I think I’ll go for ... .
No, I think I’ll have ... .
No, I think I’d prefer ... .
