คิดว่าหลายท่านคงเคยได้ยินคำว่า Rogue Antivirus กันมาบ้างแล้ว โดย Rogue Antivirus (บางครั้งเรียก Fake antivirus หรือ Scareware) คือ ไวรัสคอมพิวเตอร์ที่ปลอมตัวเป็นโปรแกรม Antivirus เพื่อหลอกให้ผู้ใช้ทำการติดตั้ง

Rogue Antivirus จะใช้ชื่อคล้ายกับโปรแกรม Antivirus ที่ได้รับความนิยมสูงหรือชื่อที่น่าเชื่อถือเพื่อให้ผู้ใช้หลงเชื่อ และโดยทั่วไปจะร่วมมือกับเว็บไซต์บางเว็บไซต์ในการแสดงป็อปอัพพร้อมข้อความ หลอกลวงในลักษณะต่างๆ เพื่อทำให้เข้าชมเว็บไซต์เข้าใจผิดว่าเครื่องของตนเองติดไวรัส ตัวอย่างข้อความที่พบได้บ่อยๆ เช่น "YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED!" เป็นต้น

จากนั้น Rogue Antivirus ก็จะเสนอความช่วยเหลือในการแก้ไขโดยการสแกนไวรัส เสร็จแล้วจะแสดงผลการสแกนหลอกๆ ว่าพบไวรัสเป็นจำนวนมากบนเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ พร้อมทั้งเสนอให้ซื้อโปรแกรมเพื่อทำการกำจัดไวรัส (ทั่วไปจะรับการชำระผ่านบัตรเครดิต) หากผู้ใช้หลงเชื่อและทำการติดตั้งหลังจากนั้นจะนำมาปัญหาต่างๆ เช่น ต้องเสียเงินโดยไม่จำเป็น หรือในกรณีที่ใช้วิธีการชำระผ่านบัตรเครดิตอาจจะถูกขโมยข้อมูลบัตรเครดิต เป็นต้น

สำหรับรายชื่อโปรแกรม Rogue Antivirus ที่นำมาแสดงนี้ มาจากรายงาน Microsoft Security Intelligence Report ซึ่งจัดทำโดยไมโครซอฟท์ โดยมีทั้งหมด 114 ตัว แต่ในที่นี้จะนำมาเสนอจำนวน 57 ตัวก่อน (เอนทรี่จะได้ไม่ยาวเกินไป) ส่วนที่เหลือจะนำมาเสนอต่อในตอนที่ 2 ครับ
