The Morning Alms Round to 2,000,000 Monks Nationwide

Finally, Thai people got the big merit from completely offering the Morning Alms Round to 1,000,000 Monks in March 2012.  It was such a great merit for Thai especially residents of Bangkok because this project was closed by arranging the last six places in the heart of Bangkok.  It is also counted to be the celebration because the total of receiving monks was at least 1,000,000.

Because of this success, the Most Ven. Phrathepyanmahamuni (Dhammajayo Bhikkhu) expands this project to offer to 2,000,000 monks nationwide until reaching the objectives which are to restore the world morality, to keep Buddhism, to strengthen the Buddhist Cultures, to summon Four Buddhist Communities to encourage and help the monks in 286 temples and the disaster victims all around the world.

History of the Morning Alms Round to 2,000,000 Monks Nationwide

The Morning Alms Round to 1,000,000 Monks Nationwide was determined by the Most Ven. Phrathepyanmahamuni (Dhammajayo Bhikkhu), the abbot of Dhammakaya Temple, because of the unrest events in four Southern provinces in Thailand in 2004.  At that time, the Single Mind Federation and over 150 associations, clubs, and Buddhist organizations arranged the Morning Alms Round to 72 monks at Talaad Thai in Pathum Thani province on May 19th, 2004 and it was supported by the Most Ven. Phrathepyanmahamuni (Dhammajayo Bhikkhu), the abbot of Dhammakaya Temple and the president of Dhammakaya Foundation. Some dried food and money were delivered to help the monks and people in the Southern provinces by Airplane C130 of Royal Thai Air Force.

In 2008, the Most Ven. Phrathepyanmahamuni (Dhammajayo Bhikkhu) considered and established the Morning Alms Round to 500,000 Monks Nationwide Project for four Buddhist Communities to help the monks and Thai Buddhists in the South.  This project was held first in Lampang province on February 10th, 2008 and did it continuously until completely arranging in all 77 provinces.  Rice, dried food and money from this project were offered to monks, novices, soldiers, police, teachers, and residents in four borderline Southern provinces every month.

In 2010, this project was expanded to be the Morning Alms Round to 1,000,000 Monks Nationwide.  This first Morning Alms Round was held on July 25th, 2010 at Phrabuddhabat temple in Phrabuddhabat district, Saraburi province.

When this project achieved, the Most Ven. Phrathepyanmahamuni (Dhammajayo Bhikkhu) expanded it to offer to 1,000,000 monks and in this year, 2012, he expands it again to offer to 2,000,000 monks.
