Miss Ireland Dethroned for being too old
Irish media reported on May 1st that newly crowned Miss Ireland 2012, Marie Hughes, has been asked to step down due to being too old. According to organizers, Hughes would be outside the age limit to compete in the Miss World 2012 pageant to be held in Ordos, China, in August.
20-year old Miss Wright Venue, Rebecca Maguire, will replace Hughes as Miss Ireland and will travel to Inner Mongolia for the international competition.
Organizers did not disclose exactly if Hughes lied in her application. All media outlets reporting on the contest stated that she was 21-years old at the time of her victory. Miss World rules are that contestants must be between 16 and 24 years of age.
