• ตามตำนานท้องถิ่น ชื่อ Egeskov มาจากการใช้เสาไม้โอ๊คจำนวนมากเป็นฐานรองรับพื้นปราสาท (คำว่า Ege = oak, skov = forest) ปราสาทสร้างบนหลักไม้โอ๊คจมในโคลน/ทะเลสาบ

Highlights of Egeskov Castle:

• According to local legend, the name Egeskov (“oak forest”) comes from the massive oak piles used to support the castle’s foundation (Ege = oak, skov = forest). The castle was built on oak pilings sunk into the mud and lakebed.

• Built during a time when Danish nobles fortified their residences due to political unrest (such as the aftermath of the Count’s Feud), giving it a unique blend of manor house and fortress.

• The estate dates back to the 15th century, but the present castle was built by Frands Brockenhuus. It later passed through several noble families, including the Bille-Brahe family, who owned it until the late 18th century.

• One of the oldest and best-preserved Renaissance water castles in Europe.

• The grounds include museums and exhibitions, such as a classic car and motorcycle museum, a firefighting and emergency vehicle museum, and Titania’s Palace — a famous dollhouse.

• Today, the castle is still a residence of the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille family, while also functioning as a museum open to the public.
