• Alexandre de Créquy-Bernieulle (1628–1703) was arrested and exiled to the provinces by Cardinal Mazarin. After his arrest, he built Château du Champ-de-Bataille between 1653 and 1665.

• The château later became the residence of the de Merendonque family.

• During the French Revolution, the château was stormed, and its furniture was sold and scattered across France.

• The château was once the residence of the Dukes d’Harcourt from the House of Harcourt. The family sold it in 1983, having originally acquired it in 1754. Although it was confiscated during the Revolution, the Harcourts were able to repurchase it later.
