The castle is the ancestral seat of the House of Hohenzollern, a noble family that originated in the Middle Ages and later produced several Kings of Prussia and German Emperors.
It is perched atop Mount Hohenzollern, 855 meters above sea level, on the Swabian Jura Mountains, south of Stuttgart.
Inside the castle are historical treasures from the Kingdom of Prussia, such as the crown of Wilhelm II and the uniform of Frederick the Great.
Today, the castle functions as a museum open to the public, and is ranked among the top 5 most-visited castles in Germany.
