In late August 2005, Hurricane Katrina roared ashore the Mississippi Gulf Coast as the worst natural disaster in American history. In 2010, the coast was hit by the man-made disaster of the massive BP Oil Spill. The way the people of the Mississippi Gulf Coast have coped with and come back from these two cataclysmic events is a model of community resilience.
Directed by Mariana Blanco, Produced by TakePart, and commissioned by the Center for National Policy (www.centerfornationalpolicy.org) with the cooperation of the Community and Regional Resilience Institute (www.resilientus.org). It was executive produced by Stephen Flynn, Sean Burke, Chris Gebhardt, Jenna Briand, and Daya Wolterstorff and premiered on September 8th at the 9/11 Tenth Anniversary Summit: Remembrance/Renewal/Resilience in Washington, DC. The Summit kicked off a national movement to foster community and national resilience in the face of future crises.
