A Prize and My Dedication to My Beloved Adviser

=================================================

Few days ago, I got a letter from my school.... Normally, receiving a letter is a bad news... It always means debt, payments and headaches.

So, I felt disgusted seeing it a bit... Anyway, I opened it and found out that it's not an invoice nor headache.

It's a congratulating letter from the school notifying me that I was selected to be a reciepient of the Research Student Award. The prize will be presented in the Annual Ceremony of the school in the coming April.

Well, I felt honored a bit about it....

When I looked back into what I was doing research-wise.... I felt so grateful with one person. He was my former adviser when I was a graduate student in Thailand. His name was Dr. Korbtham Sathirakul.

He was the kindest individual I ever knew.... He was one of the smartest people I'd ever been exposed to.

He was the first Thai whose earned PhD from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Tokyu. He was one of the earliest advisees of Dr. Yuichi Sugiyama, one of the most famous scientists in pharmaceutical fields.

If there was someone called as a big shot, Dr. Sugiyama was a cannon!! Let me put it this way;

In the last ten years, numbers of his citations in Science Citation Index in Pharmacology&Toxicology was ranked number three!!

Although Dr.Korbtham's PhD works with Dr. Sugiyama was well beyond ten years, but his works were a foundation of his adviser's subsequent discoveries.

When I was working with A. Korbtham, my wife whose also was studying in another university needed to take a pharmacokinetics course but the professor in her university refused to offer her the course. So I came to him asking him that my wife and I would like to take his Advanced Pharmacokinetics course. This course had been offered for many years since he was working in the school but there was no one daring to take it yet...

So my wife and I were the first group of students in the course.

Notably, my wife had some problems with her schedule in her university.... So if she could take any classes elsewhere it would be on weekends!!

A. Korbtham was kind enough to teach us on Saturdays!! The course was really tough, challenging and loaded insights in biology, then describing these complex biological knowledges in mathematical terms and tons of equations....

Anyway, both of his students faught their ways until the course was over....

I thought that I did a great job on this course.... I got an A.... and I was really proud taking this course... (Note: I don't know whether or not, during the past ten years, there was any students taking this course after me and my wife.)

Literally, this single course totally turned me and my academic career around....

I transformed myself from a clinician to a pharmacokineticist/scientist. I read, read, read and read thousands of papers about pharmacokinetics. I searched for new papers about it everyday.... Aiming to propel myself to one of the best pharmacokineticists like A. Korbtham and Dr. Sugiyama.

Thus far, I wasn't that qualified but I was going to try my best.

If there was someone I would show this prize to and gave him a thankful hug, that man would be him, Dr. Korbtham Sathirakul.

FYI, Mr. Klueless was the only man who I counted stars and slept with for six nights!! (at Khoa-Chon-Kai, Karnchanaburi Province during our 7-day military trainings) :)

He sent the above kind words to me and the following message was my response;

"I will dedicate my life to find one, to repay him!!"

Note: My life has been intertwined with works and many others. New responsibility has emerged, resulting less and less time for my ordinary life. Although, a love to write is still intact... But having less time is related to having less imagination.... Therefore, I could not come up with new writings for quite some times.

It might be a good time for me to leave this forum for moment.... Please take it as Mr. A.T. is having a sabbactatical leave or something like that....

As noted above, my love to write is still the same... and will not be changed. Sometimes somehow, I hope I could come back and give some thoughts in this blog once more.

Cheers,
Mr. A.T.

Hello,

My pen-name in Pantip is amatuer translator. Actually, I'm a lousy translator with lame translation. My pen-name is somewhat misleading, I have no background in linguistics what-so-ever. Anyway I love to read, write and communicate with people...

Reading is my most favorite hobby. I read everything from shopping bags to articles in theoretical physics. I do research and teaching for my living. So, reading, writing, thinking and doing research works are my everyday routine.

I would like to define myself as a person who is accepting new ideas and adopting those into my way of life.

I believe in power of knowledge/education. I think every society can be a better society with knowledge. Ignorance can be dispelled by it. Humanity can live sustainably and harmoniously with each other along with its biosphere with understandings in the nature surrounding it.

Apart from my philosophical thoughts reflecting who I am, I can tell you something I like or love in particular;

I love dogs.... Particularly, labradore retrievers.... One day, I would like to spend my time and life with them as a big part of my family.

Zhuge Liang is my hero. With his wisdom and faithfulness, he led a tiny army to a mighty and formidable kingdom. He left his humble residence with a hope to come back. But, sadly, he had never returned and died far far away from home in a horse carriage in a battle field. If I could choose where I would, I would say where-ever my lovely wife was nearby.

I value happiness and my family as my first priority. My profession and my philosophy come in the second. Pursuit in wealth has never been in my desire.

I'm glad to be your friend, and look forward to seeing you around krub.

Best wishes,
A.T.
