การใช้ a, an
1. หน้าคำนามเอกพจน์
ถ้าคำนามขึ้นต้นด้วย พยัญชนะ ใช้ a
ถ้าคำนามขึ้นต้นด้วย สระ ใช้ an
ถ้าคำนามขึ้นต้นด้วยพยัญชนะ แต่อ่านออกเสียงเป็นสระใช้ an เช่น an hour
2. ใช้นำหน้าคำนามแทนหมู่ หรือ เหล่า
เช่น Tiger is an animal
3. ใช้แสดงอัตราต่อหน่วย
เช่น You have to take 3 pills a day
4. ใช้กับสำนวน
What a .... เช่น
What a pity!
5. ใช้แสดงการนับ g=jo
a dozen of eggs
6. ใช้แสดงความเจ็บป่วย
ใช้เป็นสำนวน have a....
I have an headache
แต่ถ้าเป็นชื่อโรค ไม่มี article นำหน้า เช่น cancer, diabetics
7. ใช้นำหน้าสำนวน such, quite, rather, many

1. ใช้กับคำนามเฉพาะเจาะจง
2. ใช้กับคำนามที่เป็นสิ่งเดียว เช่น The Sun
3. ใช้แสดงลำดับที่ The First, The second, The last
4. ใช้ในคำแสดงขั้นสุด Superlative : The best, The most beautiful
5. ใช้ในสำนวน The + ขั้นกว่า, the + ขั้นกว่า
The more you study, The better your grade is.
6. ใช้กับประเทศที่เป็นสาธารณรัฐเช่น The United States of America, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, The Philippines.
