This magazine is packaged very well for the casual reader. I would term it more as a Food Network Magazine than a recipe digest as some people might expect it to be. Yes, there are some recipes but its more about cooking tools (pretty expensive ones at that), fancy gear, insight into Food Network chefs, book promotions and then a few recipes.
Don't take me wrong, I like it but it is definitely not for the recipes it packs.
And for the rare vegetarian chef/cooking enthusiast out there, not your kind of book.

Wired Description Who Reads Wired? Wired readers want to know how technology

Wired Description Who Reads Wired? Wired readers want to know how technology is changing the world, and they’re interested in big, relevant ideas, even if those ideas challenge their assumptions—or blow their minds. Wired readers are generally familiar with computers and the Internet, but this is definitely not a computer magazine—Wired won’t teach you how to upgrade your RAM. Instead, it’s a magazine about science, art, adventure, online culture, business, philosophy … and bright shiny beautiful gadgets. Each month, more than 2 million smart, savvy readers come to Wired for clean, clear writing with a wry twist. What You Can Expect in Each Issue: Start:
In Start, readers are treated to quick bites of information on everything from provocative innovations (in-flight Wi-Fi, anyone?) and new technologies (who won the DVD format wars?) to cultural shifts (why are Korean schoolgirls buying mini refrigerators?). Looking for tips on touching up your digital pictures or resetting a dislocated shoulder? Start has those, too. The stories are presented in smart, irreverent language with Wired’s signature visual flair. Test:
Wired has covered gear and gadgets since its very first issue. Every month, Test gives readers the definitive take on the hottest products on the market, from the newest HDTVs to the slimmest notebook computers. The best tech writers in the business put the gear through a rigorous review and rate it from 1 to 10. Mix in Wired's trademark visuals and humor and you've got the most useful, entertaining coverage of products anywhere. Play:
Now that popular culture is Wired culture, this is the best place to turn for the skinny on what’s cool, quirky, and fun. The section kicks off with Playlist: the top 10 newest, coolest things in the Wired world. In the rest of Play, editors delve deeper into movies, art, books, games, design, and online entertainment. Plus, it delivers the big picture so readers understand why these things matter. Wondering about cognitive science behind Halo 3? Curious about the cutting-edge engineering that goes into making a Top 40 single? The answers are in Play every month. Endgame:
Part contest, part game, and totally engrossing, the Endgame puzzle challenges Wired readers to think deeply, both on and off the page. Features:
Each month, the editors open a window to the future of technology, business, entertainment, science, and culture. We recently devoted 22 pages to the thorny questions to which scientists still don't have answers: Why do we sleep? What causes ice ages? Do forests actually speed up global warming? Other recent topics: How Apple does so well by behaving so badly; the race to build the 100-mile-per-gallon car; 12 ways to supercharge your brain; and how personal genomics could change the way you live. Magazine Layout: Outstanding print design is about the seamless integration of compelling stories and fresh ideas with expert typography, arresting photography, and sharp illustration. Inventive visual architecture has been part of the magazine’s DNA from the beginning. Fifteen years on, Wired is still the place to turn for eye-popping images and a style that sets the pace for the rest of the magazine design world. . Click on any image below to see select pages from Wired: Contributors: Wired editor in chief Chris Anderson, author of The Long Tail, writes regularly for the magazine. Among our other writers are Steven Levy, Joshua Davis, Steven Johnson, Jeff Howe, Lawrence Lessig, Daniel H. Pink, Bruce Sterling, Clive Thompson, and Gary Wolf. Contributing photographers and artists include Dan Winters, Platon, Nigel Parry, Andrew Zuckerman, Robert Maxwell, Bryan Christie, Tobias Frere-Jones, Jonathan Hoeffler, and Jason Lee. Past Issues: Awards: Under the leadership of editor in chief Chris Anderson, Wired has been nominated an unprecedented six consecutive times for the National Magazine Award for General Excellence, winning the industry's top prize in 2005 and 2007. In 2008 Wired was nominated for three NMAs, for General Excellence, Design, and Best Section. In 2008 the magazine was nominated for 18 of the top awards from the Society of Publication Designers.

You don't have to have a Ph.D. in computers, math, or engineering in order to enjoy this magazine: I don't possess such credentials, and I think Wired is outrageously good. The appeal of Wired is information on cutting-edge technology, delivered in a highly visual, understandable, and often entertaining format. A subtle sense of humor pervades the magazine with features such as "Return to Sender" - a contest in which Wired readers attempt to send the weirdest possible item in the mail to the magazine's San Francisco headquarters; or "Japanese Schoolgirl Watch" - which tracks the latest trendy gadgets favored by one of the world's most trend-obsessed demographic groups. Wired endlessly scrutinizes and ponders on the intersection of technology, humans, and society in its terrific articles. The articles are always interesting, and well-written, with topics such as artificial sight research, or the shenanigans of MIT's Blackjack Team in Las Vegas (9/02 issue); parents of extremely ill children, united via the Internet in their challenges to the medical industry (9/01); or a profile of the Ibot Transporter "inventrepreneur," Dean Kamen (9/00). Wired is a beautifully presented, outstanding magazine. Try one issue - you might get hooked!

This was my "first" grown-up girl magazine and I still share a fondness for it and usually buy it at least three or four times a year. My guess is in order to keep the cover price down, the mag is trying to cut corners on other importent areas like--paper quality. The magazine is printed on a lower quality paper than most--decreasing its' durability and readability. Also, let's face it--some of the writing is just not up to the same level of many competing magazines. The articles seem repetitive, simple-minded and without a lot of useful information. Let's hope the "old gal" gets a quality "face-lift" and soon.

You'll be able to trim grass in hard-to-reach areas where mowers cannot cut while also maintaining a neat edging along hard surfaces. Two 20-volt batteries for longer run time and better access to remote property areas (see larger image). Cut the extension cord and enjoy a long charge with the 20-volt lithium-ion battery (see larger image). Switch from trimming to edging in seconds (see larger image). It's powered by a 20-volt Max lithium-ion battery that offers a longer lifespan and retains its charge 5x longer than Black & Decker's 18-volt NiCad batteries--and this package includes two batteries so you can keep one charged while using the other. It features a Groom'N'Edge head that can be rotated 180-degrees for quick switches between cutting and edging tasks along with Black & Decker's Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) system, which uses centrifugal force to dispense more line whenever you need it for added predictability and dependability--no bumping required. Over the years I've used many Black & Decker products. Everything from power tools to lawn care equipment, most are as advertised and effectively do the job just as good as the higher priced competition. I haven't used a gas powered tool in over 12 years now. I've also gone the electric route as well. My eleven year old 18 volt B&D trimmer has more then proved itself and finally was put out to pasture. I'm still surprised that I got that much running time from the two 18 volt batteries that came with the unit. For quick and easy trimming, its been a capable tool. That said, I picked up the Black & Decker LST220 Grasshog Trimmer at my local hardware store last weekend.

After a quick inventory, I scanned over the brief instructions. Its pretty much cut and dry as to what's in the box. There's the trimmer, instructions, two batteries, cord, and a charger. The company also tags on a two year limited warranty. The instructions on Black & Decker tools are still amusing to say the least. It doesn't take a degree in rocket science to put a piece of their gear together. Knowing what I know about battery powered lawn tools, I knew I would need both batteries to complete the tasks in my large front and back yards. So I charged both of the 20 volt batteries for about 8 hours each.

Now the test. First off, the B&D LST220 Trimmer has a nice light feel to it. Like my older trimmer, the handle has a good ergonomic feel to it. It easily moves up and down and rotates a full 360 degrees. Adjustment is easy. It didn't take me long to find out about the line's new auto feed system. Its much nicer then the old bump and feed system. On average I found myself using about four of the 30' line spools a year. Only time will tell if that number drops with this new system.

The trimmer does seem faster. I don't doubt the advertised 7500 rpm a bit. The 12" trim path has not changed from my older model. The trigger configuration hasn't changed either. Its still has a nice feel. Trimming wise, this model operates smoothly without any hiccups. It does a great job of getting under bushes and around the fence line. Just like my older unit, I was not surprised that I had to utilize both batteries to get the front yard trimming done. I noticed a drop off in power at about 15 minutes. Good thing B&D includes two batteries. One battery doesn't come anywhere near getting the job done.

The metal guard for edging has stayed much the same design as the original model. Like my older B&D trimmers, the LST220 Trimmer is not capable of doing a great job of edging because of the steady drain on battery power. Even with two 20 volt batteries, its just not enough juice. I always have to break out my electric powered edger or hand tools to complete the task. Why Black & Decker even promotes its lineup of battery powered trimmers as edgers is a mystery to me.

Even though I am user of many Black & Decker products, I find the company's website limited on up to date product information. Product registration is available via the site. It seems that it took them ages to post a toll free number. Now depending on the product, there is a toll free number posted for each line. When I did contact customer service for other tools that I've owned, I've always received outstanding service. Signing up for the company newsletter via email is nothing more then receiving an occasion survey on products.

Even with its battery limitations, the Black & Decker LST220 Cordless Grass Hog Trimmer is a useful working tool in clearing out ground not accessible by a mower. When it comes to edging that's a different story. Personally I don't think there is any battery powered tool out there that certifies as a true edging tool. I know I've not seen or used one. Still, this Black & Decker tool covers the bases as a good gas free trimmer.

The recipes usually turn out very well. I've made some wonderful desserts

I've recently been trying to de-clutter my house. As part of that project, I've been going through 20 years of Bon Apetit magazines, culling recipes that I remember fondly and recalling a few food disasters. I've also noticed how the magazine has changed over the years.

Photography is and always has been a strong point for this magazine. I rarely get a new copy without seeing a beautiful picture of something I just have to try making. I've cut out hundreds of dessert recipes - I find pictures of chocolate cakes much more evocative than pictures of steamed vegetables. A large number of the recipes in Bon Apetit come with photos, and I find that helpful in deciding whether I want to try them.

The recipes usually turn out very well. I've made some wonderful desserts, and my wife was stunned (favorably) by some black bean cakes I made for her birthday. The writing is clear and I'm not often left wondering what exactly is meant by the instructions. A few recipes haven't turned out well, and I'm an experienced enough cook to believe that it wasn't my fault, but over 20 years and out of hundreds of recipes, that isn't at all bad. There have been more than a few recipes that simply didn't sound good, but the magazine staff has generally avoided strange food combinations just for the sake of novelty.

My complaint is that the ratio of recipes to other stuff has fallen over the years. Bon Apetit has become more of a lifestyle magazine, and the lifestyle isn't mine. It seems aimed at young and fabulous singles, footloose young couples, and retired couples who don't have young children. After reading some of the party, travel, and buying features I come away with the vague sense that my own kitchen and lifestyle would be found wanting by the editorial staff. I find that very annoying. I sometimes wish that the editors showed more recognition of the fact that not all readers are organized and fabulous and possessed of vast amounts of unused storage space. Some of us are harried, insanely busy, and couldn't find the nutmeg grater if the childrens' lives depended on it. How about occasional restaurant, vacation, and purchasing tips for the unfabulous?

The magazine generally includes several recipes that are easy and fast. My wife and I usually like them a lot; the kids squinch up their faces and act like we're poisoning them. I guess we'll stick to the desserts. I still like this magazine, but I'm afraid I don't like it nearly as much as I used to. We've grown apart, I'm sad to say. I think I've been left behind for people with ovens that can cook wonderful intimate meals for their 50 closest friends and grills that crank out enough BTUs to melt the polar ice caps. $BUY TODAY>LG 60PA6500 60-Inch 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTVfor sale.
