Today my teacher assigned me the topic about what I'm feeling about English course here and I've just finished it and sent it to her by e-mail. So I'm gonna show you what I wrote.

Dear Maria,

Here is my essay opinion about ELICOS course. I'm apologized if my opinion is not right and I don't mean to blame on whom.

Is the time spent on the ELICOS course is worthwhile?

ELICOS course is the English course for international students. Many of them including me are keen on studying abroad to improve their English skill especially speaking skill. However, only spending time on the ELICOS course is not adequate for me to improve my English skills.

The fist reason is that I spent time in the class room only 5 hours a day and there were not much speaking correctly. For example, I had many assignments for discussion with my classmates and all of them are from different countries especially not from English using country. I cannot say 100% that it could improve my speaking skill because teachers couldn’t correct my grammar or vocabulary or even how to use English naturally. In addition, it was only short time a week for speaking. In contrast, I think working part-time with a native speaker is much better.

Secondly, I’m disappointed with the course curriculum especially in this term. As the fist class, there was listening class like BTN program that is very useful for international students to improve their listening skill in real life. I think that it should have in every class or level of studying but it’s not usual. It doesn’t have in this term. In addition, for essay writing task, I still don’t know how to write in the fabulous way. My one is still simply and if I test an IELTS test or Box Hill’s test, I can predict 100% that it’s not more than 4.5 points.

Finally, I think that to studying the ELICOS course here is not different from studying in my country. I experience many English institutes in Thailand. I found that it’s same. There were western teachers teaching likewise. However, some teachers here can be very good teacher because they know how to improve student skill not only focusing on paper work.

In conclusion, I think that the best way to learn and improve English is using it everyday not just only class room. If you can have a chance to communicate with native speaker regularly, you would develop yourself swiftly.
