NoOM’s Journey 01: Learn the Nature and understand myself
Sawasdee Krub everyone.. (Sawasdee is a Thai greeting word and Krub is a polite way to end a sentence and to express a sense of respect)
**I decided to write my blog in English for my non-Thai friends / colleagues so they could virtually experience what I experienced.**
I had the first bird watching trip 21 months ago. Before the first stride into bird watching, I always had a good feeling whenever my face felt the air, my eyes saw condense greeneries or my ears heard the sounds of other non-human being creatures. The feelings of simple and tranquility stroked me and I figured that I should really get closer to the nature. How and when? I tried to find a meaningful way to get out of the complexity and the pace of life of one of the biggest cities in the world offering me. Time flied. Once I graduated and got a decent job, I knew it was time to do something I longed for for long time, getting out of Bangkok and explore the nature.
One day, I learned about Hornbills by watching a Thai documentary. The first intended look of the creature, even through a TV, I was stunned by how unique and beautiful the bird was. The host explained that Hornbills had one love in their lifetime. By that second, I fell in love with the bird! A big bird with unique creation and the ideal love life, all I could say was “WOW”. At the same time, I knew what I would do to get closer to the nature, bird watching!
Since then, I have been bird watching through many different places in Thailand, mostly the first time for me. I could not be happier! I enjoy places I go no matter how many species I find. No expectations, No regrets. My goal is just to enjoy. Actually, getting out of Bangkok is already a joy. I witnessed a number of wonderful birds and many times, they took my breath away.
Birds are amazing creatures. I believe human knowledge about birds and the nature, at the moment, is very little. We only assume that we know. I am not sure when we would actually know because even ourselves, we don't actually understand. Though the learning of one thing in the nature can contribute to the learning of oneself. Once we totally understand, the real happiness is there I believe.
Photography
I also love photography. To take photos of birds is an amazing activity I managed to blend with bird watching. The funny story is earlier no one in the group of bird watchers I travel with took photos. They just watched. Only me carried a heavy load of gadgets around all day long. Once my friends learned that one could enjoy bird watching and at the same time, take some good photos, they had second thoughts. Guess what, now EVERYONE has a camera. :D Chiefly, I am still a bird watcher and I care for birds more than taking good photos. I promise to myself, I wouldn’t disturb the birds too much.
The more I understand myself, the happier I would be. To learn the nature, I understand myself more. I am just a super tiny part of the nature, to make it more dramatic, or of the Universe. We are all connected, one way or another. To make the world, the better place, we have to be a good connector. Being less selfish, my mind is lighter. Being optimistic, I constantly find a way to be happy. Bird watching is an activity that could make you “better” and be a good particle of this gigantic existence.
I still have a lot to learn in terms of bird watching but I knew I added a great happiness maker to my life! I wouldn’t stop this machine any time soon and hopefully, I would be able to do it for life. Now, wouldn't you feel like bird watching? Let’s get on the bus and ride on the journey together!
