เพลง I Will Survive เชื่อว่าทุกคนคงเคยได้ฟังหรือรู้จักเพลงนี้กันดีนะครับ I Will Survive เป็นเพลง dance เพลงหนึ่งที่คนรู้จักมากที่สุดในโลกเพราะถูกนำมาประกอบหนัง,โฆษณามากมาย
อย่างที่หลายคนคงทราบกันดีว่า ต้นฉบับเป็นของ Gloria Gaynorเพลงนี้ถูกเปิดออกอากาศครั้งแรกตั้งแต่ปี 1978 ในฐานะเพลง B-Side ของเพลง Substitute *สมัยก่อน Single นิยมเปิดด้วยแผ่นเสียง Vinyl จะมีเพลงหน้า A กับ B โดยเพลงหน้า A จะเป็นเพลงกะขายแต่เพลงหน้า B จะเป็นเหมือนเพลงแถม แต่ศิลปินบางรายก็สามารถทำให้เพลงฮิตทั้งหน้า A และ B ได้
แต่เพลง I Will Survive ดันเป็นที่ "โดน" ใจของผู้ฟังมากกว่า ทั้งตาม club และสถานีวิทยุ ด้วยเนื้อหากระแทกใจประมาณสร้างความแข็งแกร่งด้วยตัวเองจากอาการอกหัก,เลิกกับแฟน ทำให้ดีเจหันมาเปิดเพลงนี้กันกระหน่ำยิ่งกว่าเพลง Substitute จนต้นสังกัดต้องออกมาเปลี่ยนให้ I Will Survive เป็นเพลงหน้า A แทน เพราะด้วยเนื้อหาโดนใจและท่วงทำนองที่ปลุกเร้า I Will Survive จึงถูกนำไปเป็นสัญลักษณ์ทั้งในเรื่อง "พลังหญิง" , "Gay Theme" ตลอดจน "การระวังป้องกันโรค AIDS"
หลังจากปล่อยตาม club และเริ่มสั่งสมความฮิตมาตั้งแต่ปลายปี 1978 ในที่สุด I Will Survive ก็ขึ้นสู่อันดับ 1 นิตยสาร Billboard สำเร็จในวันที่ 10 มีนาคม ปี 1979 และอันดับ 1 ในอังกฤษในวันถัดมา (11 มีนาคม 1979) กลายเป็นเพลง Top 10 เพลงที่ 2 ของ Gloria Gaynor หลังจากเพลง Disco สุดฮิต Never Can Say Goodbye อันดับ 9 ในปี 1974
I Will Survive ยังเป็นเพลงแรก(และเพลงเดียว) ที่ได้รับรางวัล Grammy Awards ในปี 1980 ในสาขา "Best Disco Recording" *Grammy Awards สาขานี้มีแค่ปีเดียวครั้งเดียวในปี 1980
พูดถึงที่มาของความดังของเพลงนี้ นอกจากเสียงร้องและพลังในการร้องที่สะใจผู้ฟังของ Gloria Gaynor แล้ว ต้องยกความดีให้กับผู้แต่งเพลงนี้ทั้ง 2 คน นั่นคือ Freddie Perren และ Dino Fekaris โดยเฉพาะ Freddie Perren เป็นนักแต่งเพลง/โปรดิวเซอร์ ที่อยู่เบื้องหลังความสำเร็จของ The Jackson 5 (I Want You Back, ABC (2 เพลงอันดับ 1 Billboard) หรือเพลง It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday ของ G.C. Cameron ที่เคยถูกกลับมาทำใหม่จนฮิตถึงอันดับ 2 โดย Boyz II Men ในปี 1992 และที่สำคัญ ยังเป็น 1 ในโปรดิวเซอร์ที่สร้าง Soundtrack ที่ดังที่สุดในโลก นั่นคือ Saturday Night Fever อีกด้วย
I Will Survive เคยถูกนำมา Cover ลงอัลบั้มของศิลปินอื่นๆกว่า 213 ครั้ง(นับตั้งแต่ปี 1979) และถูกนำไปร้องในหลากหลายภาษาทั้งหมด 20 ภาษา รวมทั้งภาษา Arabic และแม้แต่ภาษาไทยบ้านเราก็มีมาแล้ว!
ศิลปินที่มีชื่อเสียง ที่เคยนำ I Will Survive ไปทำใหม่ มีมากมาย เช่น
- Diana Ross ( เวอร์ชั่น Dance กระหน่ำปี 1995) - Cake (แบบ Alternative) - Eves Plum (Punk Rock หญิง) - Snuff (วงอังกฤษแบบพังค์ร็อค ชาย) - R.E.M. (Acoustic เวอร์ชั่น) - Chantay Savage (แบบ R&B) - Celia Cruz (ราชินี Salsa ภาษาละติน) - Robbie Williams (Sampling ในเพลง "Supreme") - Crazy Frog (แบบ Euro Dance Beat ในปีนี้) และ Version หมอลำบ้านเราโดย สายสุนีย์ สุกฤษณ์ ที่ทำออกมาได้เก๋ไก๋มากๆ
ภาพยนตร์หลายเรื่องมากมาย ที่เคยนำเพลงนี้ไปใช้ประกอบ เช่น Men in Black ภาค 2, The Replacement,The Adventures of Priscilla : Queen of the Desert, In&Out และอีกมากมายจนมีคนเคยบันทึกสถิติไว้ว่า เฉพาะในปี 2000 เพลง I Will Survive ถูกปรากฏอยู่ในภาพยนตร์ถึง 6 เรื่อง ในปีเดียว
นอกจากภาพยนตร์แล้ว I Will Survive ยังถูกนำไปใช้ประกอบโฆษณาและในเกมแนว Dance ของ Playstation ตลอดจนยังถูกนำไปใช้เป็นเพลง Theme ของทีมชาติฝรั่งเศสในปีที่เป็นแชมป์ France'98 อีกด้วย
ปัจจุบัน I Will Survive ก็ยังเป็นเพลงที่เรายังได้ยินบ่อยๆ ไม่ว่าจะไปที่ไหนพิสูจน์ถึงความเป็นอมตะของเพลงนี้ได้ดี จริงๆแล้วไม่ว่าเพศไหนได้ฟังเพลงนี้ก็อดที่จะขยับแข้งขยับขาตามไม่ได้
ด้านเนื้อหาของเพลง ผมว่าสะท้อนใจชาวสีม่วงได้ดี เพราะมักจะเป็นคนอ่อนไหวหรืออาจจะอ่อนแอได้ง่ายในเรื่องความรัก และอาจจะเจอการไม่สมหวังในความรักได้บ่อยๆ แต่พอเพลงนี้ขึ้นมา เหมือนปลุกใจให้ต้องรู้จักยืนหยัดด้วยลำแข้งของตัวเอง เพื่อดำเนินชีวิตต่อไป I Will Survive!

Honestly I really can't resist to sing along when I heard this song. Because I think it has lyric that pursuade everyone to sing along. It's so simple yet honest (and funny!). It's also aim directly to the point that they want to send to its audiences.
