Pan's Labyrinth

[Apr. 17th, 2007|04:45 pm]

I went to a good movie called 'Pan's labyrinth'. Most of the scences are explicitly violent, horrifying, reflecting many of the cruel truths of the real world through the horrors of war and the sadist ruler. The main character is a pure innocent girl called Ofelia, who comes to live with her step father, the sadist army commander who chooses to make life unlivable for those around him. He heartlessly kill others and torment Ofelia and her pregnant mother. Ofelia meets a faun who tells her that she is the long lost princess, and she must accomplish three tasks in fantasy realm in order to return to her kingdom. Fantasy realm seems to be the only hope for Ofelia to escape from cruelties of her step father, however, rather than being a dreamlike domain for her to escape into, instead becomes a dark nightmare equally scary and horrifying as her real world. The cruelties of existence are obvious both in the real world and fantasy world. The highlight is the choices that Ofelia make in both worlds, which represent her inner beauty that ignite the hope in even the darkest, most hopeless world.
