The French were the first to move away from fashion to industry, not just dress-making but they have been exporting their style since the 17th century, which clearly made most of the world realize what fashion was.
Today, Paris is considered one of the world's fashion capitals, along with London, New York and Milan. These days it does not mean that people in Paris wear beautiful clothes - it is a serious business.
