Almost three years at Penn
I have not updated my blog for two years. Unbelievably, I have just completed all the coursework and will have to take the candidacy exam in three months (October) in order to become a PhD candidate and begin the dissertation. I still don't know how I passed all those difficult situations in the past three years of graduate school, and don't know how to pass what lies ahead. There is two years of funding left, and I have to finish my PhD by then, otherwise, I don't know how I can get another year of funding to stay here. The school does not have much money to support students, I did TA for free for three classes. Humanities is so poor that sometimes I think I should have chosen Computer Science or a field that has more money to support graduate students. I have been seeing a therapist and a psychologist to help with my depression, though it does not help much. I don't want to talk about my feelings, and I don't want to talk with my therapist.
Today I'm feeling extremely down because my dog is still in the hospital. He accidentally ate ibuprofen when I was out for dinner 4 days ago. Even though I brought him to the ER that night, it looks like the medication had already got into his system. He was fine until yesterday that he started to vomit. Today the vet told me that he needed to stay in the hospital for another day because he hasn't stopped vomiting. I have been crying since the first day, and hearing that he is sick breaks my heart into pieces. I just want to suffer in his place. He is the only reason I want to stay alive.
