History and Culture of Palma Nova
Palma Nova was developed in the 1960s as a purpose-built holiday resort. It has an international community, but attracts mostly British tourist and residents. Unlike the adjoining Magaluf, Palma Nova remains active all-year-round which makes it a popular choice for permanent residents. You can drive to Palma in 10-15 minutes and there are excellent amenities available for food shopping and healthcare. The British are particularly well catered for.
Palma Nova attracts a good deal of the ex-pat population in the winter months and is lively in summer, but not noisy or boisterous. The town is not as up-market as the nearby Puerto Portals and as such is more affordable than many areas in Mallorca as both as a holiday destination or a place to buy property.
Shopping
There is an excellent range of shopping for such a small town as well as the usual souvenir and beach shops there boutiques, news agents, a book shop, perfumeries and leather goods shops. There are also several large supermarkets nearby, well-worth a taxi ride if you are self-catering. Also within easy driving distance is the lively shopping centre of Porto Pi. If you are really interested in serious shopping head for Palma city where you will find almost anything you desire.
Things to Do Palma Nova
Palma Nova is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a beach holiday, but it also enjoys a great location to access some of Mallorcas most beautiful nature parks and extensive golf facilities. There are several golf courses in neighbouring Santa Ponsa and Cala Vinyes.
The Tramuntana mountain range, also in south west Mallorca, attracts many hikers and bikers, particularly in the cooler months. Use Palma Nova as your base and you can access a very wide range of trips around the island or spend the day at the bustling city of Palma de Mallorca.

Palma Nova offers a wide range of restaurants, most of which are located on the main strip along the beach. Prices are pitched to suit a modest budget but you can also find more gastronomic offerings, particularly in the more upscale resorts of Puerto Portals and Bendinat
