Basic concepts of computer science

Computer science is the science of methods and processes for collecting, storing, processing, transferring, analyzing and evaluating information using computer technologies that provide the ability to use it for decision-making.

The history of mankind is the story of how a person sought to obtain information about the world around him, to preserve, use, and pass it on to future generations. Rock painting, cuneiform, oral speech, musical sounds, musical notation for writing them, the alphabet, telegraph, radio, telephone, television, computers - these are just some of the links in the chain of attempts to improve the methods of receiving, storing, processing and transmitting information.
With regard to computer data processing, information is understood as a certain sequence of symbolic designations (letters, numbers, encoded graphics and sounds, etc.), which carries a semantic load and is presented in a computer-understandable form.

Information processes are actions performed with information: receiving, storing, processing, transferring.

The computer opens up new opportunities and prospects for the development of these processes and communication between people for a person. Information is the basic concept of computer science.

Information technologies are technologies for the accumulation, processing and transmission of information using certain technical means.

Information resources are the ideas of mankind and instructions for their implementation, accumulated in a form that allows them to be reproduced (books, articles, patents, dissertations, research and development documentation, technical translations, data on advanced production experience, etc.).

Informatics is a science that studies methods of collecting, storing, processing and transmitting information using computer technology.

The term informatics comes from the French words information and automatique.

Objectivity, completeness, reliability, adequacy, availability and relevance of information.

Objectivity and subjectivity of information. The concept of objectivity of information is relative. This is understandable when you consider that the methods are subjective. More objective is considered to be the information in which the methods introduce a smaller subjective element. For example, it is generally accepted that as a result of observing a photograph of a natural object or phenomenon, more objective information is formed than as a result of observing a drawing of the same object made by a person. In the course of the information process, the degree of objectivity of information always decreases. This property is taken into account, for example, in legal disciplines, where the testimony of persons who directly observed events or received information indirectly (through inferences or from the words of third parties) are processed in different ways.
