บารัค โอบามา ยังคงครองตำแหน่งบุคคลผู้ทรงอิทธิพลที่สุดของโลกต่อเนื่องเป็นปีที่ 2 โดย ฟอร์บส ระบุว่า ผู้นำสหรัฐฯ นอกจากจะชนะป๊อบปูลาร์โหวตแล้ว ยังได้จำนวนผู้แทนเลือกตั้งทิ้งห่างคู่แข่งอย่าง มิตต์ รอมนีย์ ในศึกเลือกตั้งประธานาธิบดีเมื่อวันที่ 6 พฤศจิกายนที่ผ่านมาอีกด้วย แม้จะคว้าชัยในสนามเลือกตั้ง ทว่า โอบามา ยังต้องฟันฝ่าวิกฤตการณ์ในประเทศอีกมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นหน้าผาการคลัง (fiscal cliff), อัตราการว่างงานในสหรัฐฯ ที่ยังสูงลิ่ว รวมถึงความขัดแย้งในตะวันออกกลางที่ส่อเค้าจะปะทุขึ้นมาอีก
