Preparing for Irene

Preparing a survival emergency kit is a priority which was neglected due to various factors and the time limitation. It’s not a sounded excused, let alone sounding like a reason.

The latest news and development of hurricane Irene makes it an unavoidable and obvious. Heavy rainfall covering the whole region was not expected till later onto the week.

As a self-employed I control my own schedule and enjoy great flexibility. All of my clients are grateful when I called to re-schedule and/or canceled our appointments.  To them I may not be on the top of the list, however, they are, to me.

From internet researching I have the guideline of crucial items, how to pack and where about to store them. There’s various web pages, government as well as individual and public, contain useful information like FEMA.gov, 72hors.org, webmd.com, ready.gov just to name a few.

Getting all items in one day is not practical; I plan to get the rest in the next day or two.

Have been familiar with major, important planning and decision making, I must admitted, this is overwhelming ,first time ever, preparing for possible disaster such the one I’m encountering. Be safe than sorry, my word of self-comforting and encouragement.

Some items are easier to pack then others, the complicating one and often are Personal Important Items, all personal ID are under this category, needs special attentions. I scanned and saved them into three sets, for each household member.

Once done with the above preparations, there’s one more important, the children. I took advantage of the daily riding between home and the gym to discussing this. It’s a big relieve to learned the schools was on alert and offers some basic guidelines to all students.

ความตั้งใจที่จะจัดเตรียมSurvival Emergency Kitหลายต่อหลายครั้งแต่ด้วยเหตุผลนานาประการและข้อจำกัดเรื่องเวลาฉันก็ยังไม่สบโอกาสที่จะทำได้ ฉันรู้มันไม่ใช่เหตุผลที่ดีเลย ข่าวการเคลื่อนตัวของเฮอริเคนไอรีนน์และสภาพพื้นที่ๆมีฝนตกเร็วกว่าการพยากรณ์ที่คะเนว่าจะมีผลกระทบช่วงปลายสัปดาห์แต่นี้เพิ่งต้นสัปดาห์ในพื้นที่เริ่มมีฝนตกและตกหนักแล้วทำให้ฉันไม่สามารถเพิกเฉยได้อีกต่อไป

ในฐานะคนทำงานให้ตัวเองมันเป็นการง่ายในการจัดเตรียมตารางการทำงาน ฉันโทรฯแจ้งยกเลิก/เลื่อนหมายกำหนดงานที่วางไว้ล่วงหน้ากับลูกค้า ทุกคนเข้าใจและเห็นด้วยกับการยกเลิก/เลื่อน ลูกค้าอาจจะคิดถึงฉันเป็นคนสุดท้ายแต่ฉันให้ความสำคัญพวกเขาเสมอ

สิ่งของที่ต้องเตรียมฉันใช้ข้อมูลจากเวปลิ้งค์ต่างๆทั้งของภาครัฐและเอกชนเป็นข้ออ้างอิง ถึงวันนี้ฉันก็ยังไม่สามารถจัดหาสิ่งของต่างๆได้ครบถ้วน พรุ่งนี้คงต้องเป็นอีกวันในการจัดเตรียม

ถึงแม้นฉันจะคุ้นเคยกับการที่ต้องทำอะไรๆด้วยตัวเองแต่ฉันก็ต้องยอมรับว่าการเตรียมตัวในครั้งนี้ทำให้ฉันว้าวุ่นพอสมควรตื่นตัวดีกว่าตื่นตูม ฉันปลอบใจตัวเอง

ของหลายสิ่งจัดเตรียมได้ง่าย หลายๆสิ่งต้องจัดเตรียมเป็นพิเศษเช่นเอกสารสำคัญต่างๆ ช่างบังเอิญเหลือเกินที่เครื่องแสกนของฉันมีปัญหา ฉันต้องหอบเอกสารกองโตออกไปทำที่ร้านที่ให้บริการ ฉันแสกนทุกอย่างจัดเก็บเป็นสามชุดให้ครบจำนวนคนในบ้าน

เสร็จจาการจัดเตรียมสองเรื่องข้างต้นฉันก็ต้องจัดแจงตระเตรียมความพร้อมและวางแผนการต่างๆกับลูก ฉันใช้เวลาระหว่างการขับรถไปรับ-ส่งพวกเขาไปเรียนเทควันโด้ในการบอกกล่าวพวกเขา เป็นที่น่ายินดีที่ทางโรงเรียนไม่ได้นิ่งนอนใจแต่ให้ข้อมูลเบื้องต้นกับนักเรียนในเรื่องนี้ทันทีที่มีข่าว
