2011-Sawai Saengsawang, a leader of a rural development team at the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), The BAAC this year expects more than 4,300 communities to participate. Some farmers are already making money from their tree banks. They have organised eco-tours, offered home stays, started renewable energy projects or processed some lumber. "The BAAC this year will start to offer farmers a 0.50-per-cent interest rate per year for each tree with a height of 130 centimetres and a trunk width of 3 centimetres, and we have a budget of Bt20 million to support this "he said. Farmers can also place trees as collateral for loans they borrow from the BAAC. Those who cannot service their debts will be allowed to raise more trees to pay off their liabilities. The BAAC plans to take advantage of the carbon-credit scheme in the future, as these trees would absorb carbon dioxide and mitigate global warming. The Finance Ministry, Budget Bureau and Ministry of National Resources and Environment are examining proposals for investing in a water system that includes the watershed areas of 25 rivers...The World Bank has estimated 1,425 billion baht (US$45.7 Bn) in economic damages and losses due to flooding, as of 1 December 2011. Most of this was to the manufacturing industry, as seven major industrial estates were inundated by as much 3 meters (10 feet) during the floods. Disruptions to manufacturing supply chains affected regional automobile production and caused a global shortage of hard disk drives which lasted throughout 2012...The World Bank's estimate for this disaster means it ranks as the world's fourth costliest disaster as of 2011 surpassed only by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, 1995 Kobe earthquake, and Hurricane Katrina in 2005...ปี 2554 ที่ผ่านมา ประเทศไทยประสบมหาอุทกภัยซึ่งธนาคารโลกเปิดเผยว่าสร้างความเสียหาย 1.4 ล้านล้านบาท ส่งผลกระทบต่อ GDP 3.7 % ต้องใช้งบประมาณฟื้นฟู 7.5 แสนล้านบาท หากไม่มีการปลูกต้นไม้ในประเทศนี้โดยเร็วในป่าต้นน้ำ 25 ลุ่มน้ำ ก็อาจจะเกิดวิกฤติน้ำท่วมรุนแรงตามมาหลอกหลอนต่อไปอีก วัวหายแล้วรีลล้อมคอกเถอะครับ
