กล้วยไม้สกุลรองเท้านารีPaphiopedilum

กล้วยไม้รองเท้านารี(Lady’sSlipper) เป็นกล้วยไม้สกุล Paphiopedilum มีชื่อเรียกอื่นๆอีกหลายชื่อ เช่น รองเท้านาง รองเท้าแตะนารี หรือ บุหงากะสุต ในภาษามาเลเซียอันหมายถึงรองเท้าของสตรี เนื่องจากกลีบดอก หรือที่เรียกว่า “กระเป๋า” มีรูปร่างคล้ายกับรองเท้าของสตรีและรองเท้าไม้ของชาวเนเธอแลนด์กระเป๋าของรองเท้านารีมีรูปร่างลักษณะและสีสันแตกต่างกันไปตามชนิดพันธุ์

กล้วยไม้รองเท้านารีมีแหล่งกำเนิดอยู่ในเขตอบอุ่น และเขตร้อนแถบเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ตั้งแต่อินเดียฟิลิปปินส์ พม่า มาเลเซียและในประเทศไทยซึ่งพบกล้วยไม้รองเท้านารีขึ้นอยู่ในป่าทั่วๆ ไปบางชนิดเกาะอาศัยอยู่ตามต้นไม้แต่ส่วนใหญ่แล้วจะเป็นพวกที่ขึ้นอยู่ตามพื้นดินหรือซอกหินที่มีต้นไม้ใบหญ้าเน่าตายทับถมกันเจริญงอกงามในที่โปร่ง ไม่ชอบที่รกทึบ แสงแดดส่องถึง
