Some words

0. Know yourself -- Tao of Pooh

How can you get very far,
If you don't know who you are?
How can you do what you ought,
If you don't know what you've got?
And if you don't know which to do.
Of all the things in front of you,
Then what you'll have when you are through.
Is just a mess without a clue.
Of all the best that can come true,
If you know what and when and who.

1. Know what's wrong with you -- Tao of Pooh

Those who know what's wrong with them and take care of themselves
accordingly will tend to live a lot longer
... than ...
those who consider themselves perfectly, healthy
and neglet their weakness

2. Know your limitation -- Tao of Pooh

Once you face and understand your limitations,
you can work with them,
instead of having them work against you,
which is what they do when you ignore them,
whether you realize it or not.
And then you will find that, in many cases
Your limitations can be your strengths

3. Eliminate your ego -- Keichu

Fame, status, achievements and wealth
have a tendency to boost one's little ego.
As a result, one is led astray
like a traveller who has lost his way
and is unable to return home.

4. Control your requirement in the others -- Thomas a Kempis

Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be,
since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.

5. Free your mind -- Lao Tzu

Empty your mind of all thoughts.
Let your heart be at peace.
Watch the turmoil of beings, but contemplate their return.
Each separate being in the universe returns to the common source.
Returning to the source is serenity.
If you don't realize the source, you stumble in confusion and sorrow.

6. Be quite, hear and listen -- Huong Zu

When you become more quiet
you are more open,
you are more able to hear, to listen.

A very small animal -- A.A. Milne

Animal so shy and small,
dreaming you were Bold and Tall.
You hesitate, all sensitive,
waiting for a chance to Live.

Time is swift, it races by;
Opportunities are born and die.
Still you wait and will not try.
A bird with wings who dares not rise and fly.

But that You you want to see.
Is not you, and will never be.
No one else will ever do.
The special things that wait inside of you.

You can be a guiding star,
if you make the most of Who You Are.
And the sensitivity,
that you're now ashamed to see,
Can be developed even more.
So you can find the hidden doors
to places no one's been before.
And the pride you'll feel inside
is not the kind that makes you fall.
It's the kind that recognizes.
The bigness found in being Small.

I've got the following words about learning...

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.
Anyone who keeps learning stays young.
The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.
-- Henry Ford

The above message tells us about 'keep learning'. and, the following message might be something related to it (in more details).

To gain knowledge, add things everyday.
To gain wisdom, remove things everyday
-- The Tao of Pooh & The Te of Piglet

IMHO, I think "to gain" in this place might be as same as "to learn to have" or something like that. Therefore, this message is (or may be) telling us about 'how to learn'.

The last one, actually, is not quite related to 2 messages above. But, let's see!

Without problem, there can be no personal growth,
no group achievement, no progress for humanity.
-- The Tao of Pooh & The Te of Piglet

You might wonder how it relates to this topic? I added it here because we learning because we would like to grow (IMHO). And, sometime, we may face a problem! So, I just want to present this quote as an encourage stuff that can help us when we face some serious problems while learning ..^^..

I've a special wording for you. This one come from "Tao Te Ching" Book, Chapter 81...

True wisdom is different from much learning;
Much learning means little wisdom.
-- Lao Tzu

Here is the reason (from book):
This is because learning is concerned with the everyday world and how it works: the more one becomes absorbed in studied of this kind, the more one becomes involved in fitness of conceptual discrimination and the more remote. Therefore, one becomes from the divisionless way of Tao.

An English professor wrote the words, "Woman without her man is nothing" on the blackboard and directed the students to punctuate it correctly.

Men wrote: "Woman, without her man, is nothing."
Women wrote: "Woman! Without her, man is nothing."

See! It is a power of the location of punctuation! So amazing... it can change the meaning of wording from one to an extremely opposite point of view.

Do not wish to be anything but what you are, and try to be that perfectly.

-- St. Francis de Sales.

At the end of life we will NOT be judged by
how many diplomas we have received,
how much money we have made,
how many great things we have done.

We will be judged by
"I was hungry and you gave me to eat,
I was naked and you clothed me,
I was homeless and you took me in."

Hungry not only for bread
- but hungry for love.
Naked not only for clothing
- but naked for human dignity and respect.
Homeless not only for want of a room of bricks
- but homeless because of rejection.

-- Mother Teresa

Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle,
and the life of the candle will not be shortened.
Happiness never decreases by being shared.

-- Buddha.

If you hear a voice within you say: "you cannot paint",
then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.

-- Vincent Van Gogh

If a man is called to be a street sweeper,
he should sweep streets even as
Michelangelo painted,
or Beethoven played music,
or Shakespeare wrote poetry.
He should sweep streets so well
that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say,
here lived the greatest street sweeper who did his job well."

-- Martin Luther King Jr.

Your work is to discover your world
and then with all your heart give yourself to it.

-- The Buddha.

To laugh is to risk appearing a fool.
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk rejection.
To place your dreams before the crowd is to risk ridicule.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To go forward in the face of overwhelming odds is to risk failure.
But risks must be taken because ...
... the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.
He may avoid suffering and sorrow.
But he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or love.
Chained by his certitudes, he is a slave.
He has forfeited his freedom.
Only a person who takes risks is free.

-- "The Dilemma," Author Unknown.

It was not so easy to be very rich; that if anyone had so many things always, one might sometimes forget that everyone else was not so fortunate and that one who is rich should always be careful and try to remember...

If he cared only about his own pleasure and never thought about the people who lived on his lands, they might have trouble that he could not help -- and there were so many people, and it would be such a hard thing

-- Little Lord Fautleroy

Little stone got her name because she's so small.

But really not so little;
she's had a big, big life.

In fact, little stone has lived a life much larger than yours.
She's older than you, in some ways stronger than you
and perhaps even more true to herself.

...

Little stone has become physically smaller and smaller.

Life is not about size and stuff.
It's about the life essence,
the invisible energy that makes life.

Her whole existence has been about breaking away, letting go,
and releasing her mass and material to reach this spirit essense.

She is so small now because she has chipped away her ego,
the desire to be big and famous, big and rich, big and shiny.

Who are you anyway?
How big do you think you are...
comparing to the sun and stars?

-- James Wanless.

The body and mind that we have,
that we are renting temporarily,
is our teacher.

It is teaching us about the nature of all compounded phenomena.
This is a lesson we have to learn.
And we can learn it in this lifetime.

Being the wise one is being the one who knows.
We can be wise right now.

We never become wise;
we never attain wisdom.
How can we attain what we have already?

We just start using it, that is all.
And we use it by bringing awareness to our lives,
reflecting on our bodies and on our mental conditions.

But don't regards them as our possession.
Don't get infatuated or attached to them.
Because if we do, we will suffer.
Because they all have the characteristic of impermanence.

-- Ajahn Sumedtho

Whatever you do today
Try to do it differently than usual
Be more silent and more watchful
Have a closer look at yourself
Just for today, give it a try.
And take it easy!

-- Shanti.

Those who awaken never rest in one place.
Like swans, they rise and leave the lake.
On the air they rise and fly an invisible course.

Their food is knowledge.
They live on emptiness.

They have seen how to break free.
Who can follow them?

@}--,--`--- @}--,--`--- @}--,--`--- @}--,--`---

By oneself the evil is done, and it is oneself who suffers:
by oneself the evil is not done, and by one's self one becomes pure.
The pure and the impure come from oneself: no man can purify another.

@}--,--`--- @}--,--`--- @}--,--`--- @}--,--`---

If it is not truthful and not helpful, don't say it.
If it is truthful and not helpful, don't say it.
If it is not truthful and helpful, don't say it.
If it is truthful and helpful, wait for the right time.

-- The Dhammapada

A name is just a shadow of reality.
People often make life more difficult for themselves in the quest for status and gain.
Only by abandoning name and merit will one find the true treasure of life.

If you really want to know yourself,
you will search out your heart and ...
... your mind to know their full content
and when there is the intention to know,
you will know.

Then you can follow,
without condemnation or justification,
every movement of thought and every feeling...
...as it arises;

By following every thought and every feeling
as it arises you bring about tranquility
which is not compelled, not regimented,
but which is the outcome of having no problem, no contradiction.

It is like the pool that becomes peaceful, quiet,
any evening when there is no wind;
when the mind is still,
then that which is immeasurable comes into being.

-- J. Krishnamurti

Looked for, it cannot be seen
Listened for, it cannot be heard
Reached for, it cannot be held
Return to the source of stillness
That is the way.

'Tie him up? What a funny idea?'
"But if you do not tie him up, he will wander off and get lost."

My friend burst out laughing again: 'But where would he go?'

'It wouldn't matter.'
And, perhaps a little wistfully, he added:
'Straight ahead of oneself one cannot go very far'

A very important moment in the work on oneself is...
when a man begins to distinguish his personality and his essence.

A man's individuality can grow only from his essence.
It can be said that a man's individuality is his essence, grown up, mature.

But in order to enable essence to grow up,
it is first of all necessary to weaken the constant pressure of personality upon it,
because the obstacles to the growth of essence are contained in personality.

Fame or integrity: which is more important?
Money or happiness: which is more valuable?
Success or failure: which is more destructive?
If you look to others for fulfilment,
