*** Avatar *** ความทะเยอทะยาน และบท "วิพากษ์-วิจารณ์" มนุษย์ *** Avatar *** James Cameron กลับมาอีกครั้ง หลังจาก 12 ปีแห่งความสำเร็จที่เป็นตำนานของ Titanic Avatar คือผลงานล่าสุดของ Cameron ที่ได้รับการคาดหวังว่า นี่อาจจะเป็น Titanic เรื่องใหม่ได้ไม่ยาก ด้วยทุนสร้างมหาศาล และความทะเยอทะยานในงานสร้างของ Cameron ที่ต้องการสร้างโลกในจินตนาการให้ออกมาสมจริงกว่าหนังทุกเรื่องที่เคยมีมา โดยการพาผู้ชมเข้าไปสัมผัสกับเรื่องราวในหนังแบบ 3 มิติ Avatar เล่าเรื่องราวของ Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) นาวิกโยธินขาพิการ ที่ต้องนั่งรถเข็นตลอดเวลา Jake ต้องเข้ามาทำงานแทนพี่ชายที่เสียชีวิต ในการควบคุม “ร่างอวตาร” ที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นมาเพื่อการสำรวจทางวิทยาศาสตร์บนดาว Pandora ดวงดาวที่ห่างไกลจากโลกหลายปีแสง เนื่องจากเขามี DNA ที่เข้ากันได้กับร่างนี้ ที่ดาว Pandora พันเอก Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) นายทหารที่ทำงานรับใช้บริษัท ได้ยื่นข้อเสนอกับ Jake ว่า จะออกค่าใช้จ่ายสำหรับการผ่าตัดเปลี่ยนขาให้กับเขา ถ้าเขาแทรกซึมเพื่อสืบเรื่องราวของ ชาว Na’vi ชาวพื้นเมืองที่ตอนนี้เป็นตัวขัดขวางสำคัญ ในการเข้าถึงแหล่งแร่อันล้ำค่า เนื่องจากพวกเขาตั้งรกรากอยู่ในบริเวณที่มีแร่ชนิดนี้ Jake รับข้อเสนอนี้อย่างยินดี ขณะที่ Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) นักวิทยาศาสตร์หัวหน้าของ Jake นั้น ไม่เห็นด้วย และไม่สนับสนุนการใช้กำลังกับชาวพื้นเมือง แต่เมื่อ Jake ได้เข้าไปใช้ชีวิตคลุกคลีกับชนพื้นเมือง ความคิดของเขาก็เริ่มเปลี่ยนไป เท่าที่ได้ยินจากเรื่องย่อคร่าวๆ Avatar ก็เหมือนกับหนังหลายๆเรื่อง ที่ดัดแปลงมาจากเรื่อง Pocahontas ซึ่งถือว่าเป็นหนึ่งในเรื่องราว Classic ที่ถูกดัดแปลงมานับครั้งไม่ถ้วน แม้จะเป็นเรื่องราวง่ายๆ และเห็นกันจนบ่อยแล้ว แต่หนังก็ทำออกมาได้ดี และถือว่าเหมาะสมกับเป้าหมายของตัวหนังที่สุด นั่นก็คือ ต้องเข้าถึงกลุ่มคนหมู่มาก และ ต้องสามารถใช้แสดงศักยภาพของ “งานด้านภาพ” ที่เป็นอีกหนึ่งจุดขายสำคัญของหนังได้อย่างเต็มที่ ที่ลืมไม่ได้ก็คือ มันต้องส่งสารให้กับผู้ชมได้ง่าย และชัดเจน ซึ่ง Cameron ใช้ประโยชน์จาก Plot เชยๆนี้ ในการสอดแทรกประเด็นต่างๆที่น่าสนใจลงไปอีกมากมาย ถึงแม้ว่าประเด็นเหล่านี้จะไม่ใช่ของที่สดใหม่นัก เพราะรู้สึกว่า Cameron จะหยิบยืมส่วนต่างๆ ของหนังเรื่องอื่นๆที่ถูกสร้างมาก่อนหน้านี้ใส่ผสมลงไป แต่ก็ถือว่าเป็นการผสมที่กลมกล่อมทีเดียว แม้ Avatar จะเล่าเรื่องราวในอีก 100 ปีข้างหน้า แต่หนังก็เสียดสีเหตุการณ์ในปัจจุบันออกมาอย่างคมคาย ในเรื่องของ “สงครามและหน้าที่ของทหาร” อย่างที่เสียงบรรยายของ Jake ได้บอกกล่าวกับผู้ชมไว้ว่า ปัจจุบัน ทหารไม่ได้ทำสงครามเพื่อปลดปล่อยตัวเอง หรือเพื่ออิสรภาพเหมือนอย่างในอดีต หากแต่มีหน้าที่รับใช้บริษัท หรือพูดง่ายๆ นี่คือ “ทหารรับจ้าง” ที่ไร้ซึ่งอุดมการณ์ หากแต่ทำงานเพื่อ “เงิน” เท่านั้น ซึ่งนี่คงไม่ต่างจากหลายๆสงครามในปัจจุบัน (โดยเฉพาะสงครามที่ก่อขึ้นโดยอเมริกา) ซึ่งเบื้องหลังที่แท้จริงก็คือ ผลประโยชน์ นั่นเอง ที่สำคัญกลุ่มที่มีอิทธิพลควบคุมกองทัพก็คือ บรรดากลุ่มบริษัทยักษ์ใหญ่ ที่มีอำนาจในทางการเมือง (และ “สื่อ” อีกหนึ่งอาวุธทรงประสิทธิภาพในปัจจุบัน) จากการที่กลุ่มบริษัททั้งหลาย ต่างก็เป็นผู้สนับสนุนทางการเงินให้กับพรรคการเมืองนั่นเอง ซึ่งคงไม่ใช่เรื่องบังเอิญที่ Cameron จะจงใจใส่บทบรรยายนี้ลงมาในหนัง เพราะมันสอดรับกับเนื้อเรื่อง และสถานการณ์ปัจจุบันได้อย่างดี ใน Avatar หนังให้ภาพของโลกสองโลกที่ค่อนข้างแตกต่างกันโดยสิ้นเชิง โลกหนึ่งคือ โลกของมนุษย์ ขณะที่อีกโลกหนึ่งคือ โลกของชาว Na’vi สิ่งที่เหมือนกันของทั้งสองโลกก็คงจะเป็น “ความเจริญ” ที่ทั้งสองฝ่ายต่างก็มีเหมือนๆกัน หากแต่เป็นความเจริญในคนละด้าน ก็ถ้ามนุษย์จะพัฒนาจนสามารถเดินทางข้ามกาแลกซี่อันไกลโพ้นมาได้ ชาว Na’vi ก็พัฒนาจนสามารถติดต่อกับธรรมชาติได้สำเร็จ แถมยังมีวิวัฒนาการที่สามารถสร้าง Network เชื่อโยงกับทุกสิ่งในธรรมชาติได้ ผ่านทางอวัยวะชิ้นหนึ่งของพวกเขา ซึ่งผมขอเรียกว่า USB (Universal Serial Bus) ก็แล้วกัน เพราะมันเชื่อต่อได้ “ครอบจักรวาล” สมชื่อจริงๆ ขณะที่สิ่งที่ “แตกต่าง” กันจนเห็นได้ชัดเจนก็คือ “แนวความคิดในการดำรงชีวิต” สำหรับชาว Na’vi นั้น เทคโนโลยีที่สมบูรณ์แบบที่สุดก็คือ “กลไกธรรมชาติ” ดังนั้นการพัฒนาและความเจริญของพวกเขา จึงเป็นการพัฒนาที่อ้างอิงกับธรรมชาติเป็นหลัก ชาว Na’vi ถือว่า ทุกอย่างถูกถ่ายทอดและส่งผ่านต่อเนื่องไปเรื่อยๆ ไม่ได้สูญหายไปไหน ดังนั้นพวกเขาจึงถือว่าทุกการกระทำของพวกเขาเป็นการ “ยืม” จากธรรมชาติ และเมื่อถึงเวลาก็ต้อง “คืน” กลับไป ซึ่งนี่ก็คือหลักการง่ายๆของการสร้าง “สมดุล” นั่นเอง ดังนั้นความกลมกลืน และร่วมสร้างความเจริญไปพร้อมๆกับธรรมชาติจึงเป็นวิถีของชาว Na’vi ขณะที่เทคโนโลยีหรือระบบที่ถูกมนุษย์พัฒนาขึ้นนั้น ถูกสร้างขึ้นเพื่ออำนวยความสะดวกแก่พวกตนเป็นหลัก ซึ่งเห็นได้จากพฤติกรรมในการพยายามหาเงินให้ได้มากจนเกินขอบข่ายของความจำเป็นพื้นฐาน (พูดง่ายๆ “ไม่รู้จักพอ”) ซึ่งนี่ก็คือหนึ่งในการหาต้นทุนในการซื้อ “ความสะดวกสบาย” นั่นเอง นั่นทำให้มนุษย์มีแนวคิดที่ว่า ต้องกอบโกย และเอาทรัพยากรต่างๆมาเป็นของตนให้มากที่สุด ซึ่งนี่เองที่เป็น “การทำลายสมดุล” ก็ในเมื่อเอาแต่กอบโกย โดยไม่คืนกลับไป จะเกิดสมดุลได้อย่างไร อีกความแตกต่างของทั้งสองฝ่ายที่ถูกหยิบยกมาเป็นประเด็นหลักก็คือ การเปรียบเทียบระหว่าง “ความเจริญทางวัตถุ” และ “ความเจริญทางจิตวิญญาณ” จากเรื่องราวในหนัง อาจพูดได้ว่า สำหรับ Jake ผู้มีร่างกายพิการ ในโลกของมนุษย์เขาอาจเป็นคนที่ถือว่าไม่มีคุณค่าอะไรนัก แม้ว่าเขาอาจมีคุณค่าอยู่บ้าง แต่นั่นก็เพราะความบังเอิญที่เขาสามารถควบคุมร่างอวตารได้ ซึ่งนั่นยังไม่สามารถเติมเต็มจิตใจของเขาได้อยู่ดี ในโลกมนุษย์ แม้ Jake จะมีจิตใจเข้มแข็งเพียงใด ก็มิอาจช่วยอะไรเขาได้มาก เพราะ “ร่างกาย” ของเขาไม่อำนวย แต่ในโลกของชาว Na’vi กลับเป็นโลกที่ Jake มีคุณค่า และสามารถทำประโยชน์ได้เต็มที่ เพียงแค่เขามี “จิตใจ” ที่เข้มแข็งพอ เอาเถอะ ถ้าคิดถึงความเป็นจริงแล้ว ถ้าร่างอวตารของ Jake ขาหัก หรือ แขนขาด เขาก็คงไม่ต่างจากสภาพเดิมซักเท่าไหร่หรอก แต่นี่เป็นเหมือน “อุปมาอุปไมย” ของหนังมากกว่า ที่ต้องการจะบอกว่า ในโลกของชาว Na’vi คุณค่าทางจิตใจมีค่ามากกว่าคุณค่าทางกายภาพ หรือคุณค่าทางวัตถุ ซึ่งก็สอดรับกับพฤติกรรมของทั้งสองฝ่ายในเรื่องเป็นอย่างดี เพราะเห็นกันชัดๆว่า ชาว Na’vi ให้ความสำคัญกับ “จิตวิญญาณ” ขณะที่ มนุษย์ ให้ความสำคัญกับ “วัตถุ” มากกว่า ที่สำคัญมนุษย์ยังพยายามยัดเยียด “คุณค่าทางวัตถุ” ให้กับชาว Na’vi อีกด้วย เพราะคิดว่านี่คือสิ่งสำคัญที่สุด เนื่องจากความคิดที่ว่าพวกตนให้ความสำคัญกับสิ่งนี้ จึงมีเทคโนโลยีที่เจริญก้าวหน้าอย่างที่เป็น ทั้งๆที่จริงๆแล้วเทคโนโลยีของชาว Na’vi ก็เจริญก้าวหน้าไม่แพ้กัน เพียงแต่เป็นคนละด้านเท่านั้นเอง นอกจากนี้หนังยังนำเสนอว่า มนุษย์ยังเลือกที่จะใช้ความรุนแรงในการแก้ปัญหาอยู่เหมือนเดิม แม้เทคโนโลยีของมนุษย์จะพัฒนาไปเพียงใด นั่นแสดงว่า พัฒนาการทางจิตใจของมนุษย์นั้นแทบจะไม่มี ขณะที่ชาว Na’vi นั้น จะเลือกใช้ความรุนแรงก็ต่อเมื่อจำเป็นจริงๆ สรุปแล้วใน Avatar หนังให้ภาพของชาว Na’vi แต่ในด้านที่ดีงาม ขณะที่มนุษย์ (ที่ยังคิดและทำแบบมนุษย์) คือ ผู้ร้ายที่น่าเกลียด (แม้แนวคิดของชาว Na’vi จะมีความ “ดีงาม” และถูกหนังนำเสนอว่า นี่คือสิ่งที่ดี และเป็นโลกในอุดมคติ ที่เราทุกคนต้องการ แต่นี่เป็นสิ่งที่ต้องหาข้อพิสูจน์กันต่อไป และคุยกันได้ไม่รู้จบ เพราะนี่เป็น “ปัญหาเชิงปรัชญา” ว่าด้วยการกระทำของมนุษย์ โดยมีใจความว่า “หากการกระทำของมนุษย์มีผลร้ายต่อระบบทั้งหมดจริง ทำไมธรรมชาติจึงสร้างมนุษย์ขึ้นมาแบบนี้” ซึ่งนี่ถือว่าเกินขอบเขตของหนังไปมากแล้ว) พูดถึงเรื่องความรุนแรงต่อ แม้จากเนื้อเรื่อง หนังจะประณามการใช้ความรุนแรง แบบไร้เหตุผลของมนุษย์ แต่หนังก็ประเคนความรุนแรงใส่ผู้ชมเต็มที่ ในฉากสงครามตอนท้ายเรื่อง (เท่าที่ Rate PG-13 จะยอมรับได้) เพื่อตอบสนองความสะใจของผู้ชม ซึ่งก็คือ “มนุษย์” ผู้นิยมความรุนแรงนั่นเอง ยอมรับเถอะ ขณะที่คุณกำลังเศร้าใจ และแค้นเคืองการกระทำที่รุนแรงของทหารในเรื่อง แต่อีกใจหนึ่งคุณก็ตื่นตาตื่นใจกับความวินาศสันตะโรของมันไปพร้อมๆกัน อีกทั้งยังพึงพอใจที่เห็นฝ่ายตัวร้ายถูกกระทำด้วยความรุนแรงเช่นกัน หรือนี่จะเป็นตลกร้ายของ Cameron ? อย่างที่บอก Avatar เหมือนเป็นการดึงเอาส่วนต่างๆของหนังเรื่องอื่นๆมาเป็นส่วนประกอบ ซึ่งนอกจาก หนังตระกูล Pocahontas แล้ว ยังมีอีกหลายเรื่อง หนังอย่าง The Matrix ก็คืออีกเรื่อง ที่ถูกดึงมาใช้ ที่เห็นชัดๆเลยก็คือ การเสียบปลั๊ก เพื่อเข้าไปโลกอื่น โดยเป็นการควบคุมผ่านจิต ซึ่งเป็นการใช้แนวคิด “จิตมีอำนาจเหนือร่างกาย” เหมือนๆกัน และนี่น่าจะเป็นอีกหนึ่งความหมายของชื่อหนัง จะต่างกันตรงที่ใน The Matrix เป็นการเข้าไปสู่ “โลกเสมือน” ขณะที่ใน Avatar กลับเป็นโลกใบเดียวกันนี่เอง แต่ถึงแม้จะเป็นโลกใบเดียวกันในความหมายเชิงกายภาพ แต่ในความหมายโดยนัย มันมีวิถีชีวิตและแนวคิดที่แตกต่างกันมาก เหมือนเป็น “คนละโลก” กันเลย อีกเรื่องที่ทำให้ผมนึกถึงก็คือ District 9 ในแง่ของการเปลี่ยนแปลงร่างกาย และจิตใจไปเป็นสิ่งมีชีวิตเผ่าพันธุ์อื่น และประเด็นที่ว่า “การที่เราจะเข้าใจผู้อื่นได้อย่างลึกซึ้งนั้น เราอาจต้องกลายเป็นแบบพวกเขาเสียก่อน” ขณะที่ภาพของทหารใน District 9 ก็ไม่ต่างจากทหารใน Avatar มากนัก เพราะเป็นกลุ่มทหารที่ทำงานรับใช้องค์กร ที่แท้จริงแล้วต้องการหาผลประโยชน์มากกว่าให้ความช่วยเหลือตามที่ถูกตั้งขึ้นมา อีกทั้งตอนจบยังมีหุ่นยนตร์บังคับในลักษณะเดียวกันอีกด้วย แต่จะบอกว่า Avatar หยิบยืมมาจาก District 9 ก็คงจะไม่ถูกต้องนัก เพราะทั้งสองเรื่องสร้างพร้อมๆกัน แต่ที่เหมือนกันน่าจะเป็นเพราะว่า หนังเสียดสีประเด็นในปัจจุบันเหมือนกัน นอกจากนี้หนังยังวิพากษ์-วิจารณ์มนุษย์ ในมุมมองของสิ่งมีชีวิตที่ไม่ใช่มนุษย์ เช่นเดียวกับหนังอย่าง The Day the Earth Stood Still กับผลลัพธ์จากความทะเยอทะยานของ Cameron ทำให้ Avatar ออกมายิ่งใหญ่ และอลังการงานสร้างมากๆ อีกทั้งหนังยังเก็บรายละเอียดยิบย่อยได้ดีมากๆ ซึ่งเหมือนเป็นการสร้างโลกบนดาว Pandora ให้ออกมาสมจริงที่สุด กระทั่ง "ภาษาของชาว Na’vi" ยังถูกคิดค้นขึ้นมาจริงๆ ไม่ต่างจากที่ The Lord of the Ring เคยสร้างโลกและภาษาของตัวเองขึ้นมา และถึงแม้ว่า Avatar จะไม่ใช่หนัง 3D เรื่องแรกของโลก แต่ด้วยเทคโนโลยีที่ถูกพัฒนาขึ้น และมาตรฐานที่หนังได้สร้างเอาไว้ นี่น่าจะเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นสำคัญ ในการเปลี่ยนแปลงวงการหนังในอนาคต หากหนังประสบความสำเร็จทางด้านรายได้ คงจะไม่เกินเลยนักหากจะบอกกว่า นี่คงไม่ต่างจากอารมณ์ความตื่นเต้นของผู้คนในสมัยก่อนที่ได้สัมผัสกับ “หนังสี” เป็นครั้งแรก นอกจากนี้ Avatar ยังท้าทายตัวเองพอสมควรที่สร้างตัวละครชาว Na’vi ให้เป็นตัวประหลาดยักษ์ ผิวสีฟ้า ที่อาจทำให้ผู้ชมเบือนหน้าหนีในตอนแรก เพราะแวบแรกที่ได้เห็น คงไม่มีใครประทับใจกับรูปลักษณ์ประหลาดที่เหมือนการ์ตูนเช่นนี้นักหรอก แต่หนังก็ทำสำเร็จจนได้ ในการทำให้ชาว Na’vi ดูมีชีวิตจริงๆ ซึ่งไม่ใช่แค่ในระดับที่ทำให้การเคลื่อนไหว และผิวหนังของชาว Na’vi ดูจริงมากๆเท่านั้น แต่ถึงขั้นทำให้ผู้ชมรักและเข้าใจในตัวชาว Na’vi ได้อีกด้วย ด้วยการค่อยๆใส่รายละเอียดวิถีชีวิตของชาว Na’vi ทำให้ตัวละครที่ไม่มีอยู่จริง กลายเป็นตัวละครที่ดูมีเลือดเนื้อ มีวัฒนธรรม และเข้าถึงจิตวิญญาณของพวกเขาได้ พูดถึงนักแสดงกันบ้าง ตัวละครเดียวที่มีพัฒนาการที่ค่อนข้างโดดเด่นที่สุดในเรื่องก็คือ Jake Sully ที่ต้องมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางจิตใจ อีกทั้งนี่เป็นตัวละครที่เป็นเจ้าของเรื่องโดยตรง เพราะกว่าครึ่งเรื่องหนังเล่าผ่านการบันทึก Video Log ของเขา ซึ่ง Sam Worthington ก็รับผิดชอบบทนี้ได้ค่อนข้างดีทีเดียว ขณะที่ตัวละครอื่นนั้น ถือว่าเป็นไปตามสูตรสำเร็จ และค่อนข้างที่จะมีมิติเดียว Stephen Lang ทำหน้าที่ได้ดีในการปั้นตัวละคร พันเอก Miles Quaritch ผู้ร้ายประจำเรื่อง ให้เป็นผู้ร้ายที่มีมาดอันน่าเกรงขาม ยียวนกวนประสาท และนิยมความรุนแรง ที่สำคัญเลวได้สุดๆ นี่เองที่ทำให้ผู้ชมพร้อมที่จะเกลียดตัวละครนี้ทันที ซึ่ง Lang สมควรได้รับคำชมในบทนี้ แม้ว่านี่จะเป็นบทผู้ร้ายตามสูตรสำเร็จทั่วๆไปก็ตาม เช่นเดียวกับ Sigourney Weaver ในบท Dr. Grace Augustine นักวิทยาศาสตร์ใจงาม ที่เป็นเหมือนขั้วตรงข้ามของ พันเอก Miles ซึ่ง Weaver รับผิดชอบบทนี้ได้ดีพอสมควร แม้จะไม่โดดเด่นเท่ากับ Lang ก็ตาม นอกจากนี้บท Neytiri หญิงสาวชาว Na’vi ของ Zoe Saldana ก็ถือว่าโดดเด่น และมีความสำคัญพอๆกับตัวละคร Jake ในฐานะเจ้าของเรื่องเลยทีเดียว แม้ตัวละครทั้งหลายจะเป็นตัวละครที่เป็นไปตาม “สูตรสำเร็จ” แต่มันก็ส่งผลดีกับตัวหนัง เพราะมันทำให้ผู้ชมสามารถเลือกข้างได้อย่างง่ายดาย (แน่นอนว่า ฝ่ายชาว Na’vi) และไม่ตะขิดตะขวงในใจ อีกทั้งยังทำให้ผู้ชมมีอารมณ์ร่วมกับหนังอย่างเต็มที่ ซึ่งนี่เองที่เป็นสาเหตุของความสะใจของผู้ชม เมื่อเห็นฝ่ายผู้ร้ายโดนลงโทษ อย่างไรก็ตาม หนังน่าจะเข้มข้นและเป็นความบันเทิงได้มากกว่านี้ ถ้าเน้นประเด็นความขัดแย้งต่างๆให้มากขึ้น เพราะเนื้อเรื่องก็เอื้อให้ทำได้ แต่หนังกลับเลือกที่จะแก้ปัญหาทั้งหลายอย่างง่ายดายเกินไป นั่นทำให้หนังไม่เข้มข้นอย่างที่ควรจะเป็น ประกอบกับการที่หนังมีความเป็น “แฟนตาซี” อยู่สูง ความจริงจังจึงถูกลดระดับไปโดยปริยาย อีกทั้งด้วยความที่หนังต้องการเข้าถึงกลุ่มผู้ชมให้มากที่สุด ทำให้ต้องจำกัดความรุนแรงของเรื่องราว นั่นอาจทำให้หนังดูกั๊กๆ ไปไม่สุดทาง และไม่สามารถพาอารมณ์ผู้ชมไปถึงขีดสุดได้ในตอนสุดท้าย ทั้งๆที่หนังก็ปูพื้นมาได้ดีพอสมควร ส่วนงานเทคนิคนั้นถือว่าเข้าขั้นยอดเยี่ยมมากๆ กับการสร้างโลกใหม่ขึ้นมาทั้งโลก ซึ่งเต็มไปด้วยจินตนาการ และรายละเอียดปลีกย่อยมากมาย ซึ่งคงไม่ต้องบรรยายอะไรมาก เพราะคงต้องพิสูจน์ด้วยสายตาตัวเอง ถึงจะรับรู้ว่ามันยอดเยี่ยมแค่ไหน Avatar น่าจะเป็นความบันเทิงสำหรับทุกเพศทุกวัยได้อย่างที่ Cameron ต้องการ แต่ถึงแม้จะเน้นความบันเทิงเป็นหลัก หนังก็มีบทที่แน่น มีเหตุผลที่มาที่ไป ที่ยอมรับได้ อีกทั้งหนังยังมีเนื้อหาสาระ แง่มุมเสียดสีสังคม และประเด็นให้ขบคิดอยู่บ้าง ไม่ใช่เบาหวิวและมุ่งแต่จะขายเทคนิคทางภาพเพียงอย่างเดียว แต่หนังก็ไม่ได้เล่นกับเนื้อหาสาระแบบหนักข้อ หรือลงลึกในแง่ของปรัชญาจนมากเกินไป ก็อย่างที่บอก จุดประสงค์หลักของ Cameron ก็คือ การมอบความบันเทิงสำหรับผู้ชม Avatar คือ หนังที่ทะเยอทะยานเต็มที่ในแง่ของเทคนิคการสร้าง ซึ่งผลลัพธ์ของมันก็สมกับความทุ่มเทของ Cameron ในขณะที่เนื้อเรื่องนั้น แม้จะเชย และถูกเล่นซ้ำมาไม่รู้กี่รอบ แต่มันก็รับใช้จุดประสงค์ของตัวมันเอง และทำหน้าที่สื่อ “สาร” ที่เปรียบเสมือน “บทวิพากษ์-วิจารณ์มนุษย์” ในมุมมองของ Cameron ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ถือว่าหนังเป็นความบันเทิง ความตื่นตาตื่นใจ และประสบการณ์ใหม่ๆสำหรับผู้ชมอย่างแท้จริง แม้โดยรวม Avatar จะยังไม่ถึงขั้นยอดเยี่ยม แต่ที่แน่ๆ นี่ต้องเป็นอีกหนึ่งผลงานที่น่าจดจำ และ เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นสำคัญของยุคสมัยใหม่ของวงการภาพยนตร์อย่างแน่นอน 8 /
