This is the way we talk, communicate and befriend.
Pulp : Like A Friend
Don't bother saying you're sorry Why don't you come in? Smoke all my cigarettes again
Every time I get no further How long has it been? Come on in now Wipe your feet on my dreams
You take up my time Like some cheap magazine When I could have been learning something Well, you know what I mean
I've done this before And I will do it again C'mon and kill me baby While you smile like a friend Oh and I'll come running Just to do it again
You are the last drink I never should have drunk You are the body hidden in the trunk You are the habit I can't seem to kick You are my secrets on the front page every week You are the car I never should have bought You are the train I never should have caught You are the cut that makes me hide my face You are the party that makes me feel my age
You're like a car crash I can see but I just can't avoid Like a plane I've been told I never should board Like a film that's so bad, but I gotta stay 'til the end
Let me tell you now: It's lucky for you that we're friends
I just had a farewell party with my close friend (she will study aboard for few years). When I wake up in the morning (I really mean it, this is the first time in half a year that I get up in the morning). The first thing that rush to my mind is this song, Pulp's Like A Friend.
This song has contained in the scene of Great Expectations (1998) which is my most favorite film. I think Gwyneth Platrow was so charming in this movie, with her arrogant face, monotone voice and that green dress. For the song, like other tracks from Pulp, it will attack you with the twist in the middle of the line. The lyrics is very smart. Jarvis Cocker is the clverest lyricist I have ever known. (The funny thing is he always said to the audiences "Don't read the lyrics whlist you're listening to the music.")
Last thing, I think it is the best track to describe my present feeling, like the last line of the lyrics, "Let me tell you now: It's lucky for you that we're friends."
I was sad but happy as well. It is the feeling that hard to describe. But I truely feel - it may be the end but it's beautiful.
I will miss her very much.
p.s. She is a kind of person who addicted to Grilled Pork. So we decided to make our farewell party with it. 555 (She is an amazing girl because she can normally eat it alone!)
