Anderson made his Manchester United debut as the Premier League champions won 2-0 at Doncaster Rovers. The summer signing from Porto was part of a youthful United side which lined up at The Keepmoat Stadium, with the big guns left to concentrate on Sunday's Community Shield with Chelsea.
The Brazilian showed some neat touches in the first half, although it was Darron Gibson who came closest to scoring when his rasping drive bounced back off the bar.
Doncaster also had chances, with James Hayter missing from close range and Gordon Greer forcing a superb save from Tomasz Kuszczak. Hamstring strain Fraizer Campbell shot straight at Doncaster keeper Neil Sullivan before Anderson was replaced at half-time.
United broke the deadlock midway through the second period when Gibson showed good control 25 yards out and lashed a left-footed drive into the net. There was a flare-up between Phil Bardsley and Mark McCammon which soured the game late on before United scored a second. Substitute Dong Fangzhuo created space for a pass to Sean Evans, whose thumping drive flew into the top corner.
After the game, Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed Anderson was taken off after aggravating a minor hamstring problem. Ferguson told MUTV: "He got 45 minutes, but he had a little strain with his hamstring. "We will assess that tomorrow, but we hope it will be alright."
