Business and Economics at Monash receives international acclaim

Monash has become the first Victorian university to be awarded international business school accreditation by the Brussels-based European Quality Improvement System, better known as EQUIS.

EQUIS is the leading international system of quality assessment, improvement, and accreditation of higher education institutions in management and business administration.

Professor Gill Palmer, Dean of the Monash University Faculty of Business and Economics, said she was delighted with the award.

"Accreditation from EQUIS firmly establishes us internationally as one of the leading higher education institutions in management and business administration," Professor Palmer said.

"Monash University is the largest university in Australia and our business and economics faculty is itself larger than many local and international universities. With our comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and with more than 16,000 students, the granting of EQUIS accreditation is a major achievement.

"This will have many flow-on benefits for our graduates who can now be assured they will receive international recognition for their qualification," she said. "This is of vital importance, given they are competing for positions in today's global business environment.

"Accreditation will further enhance our international research and teaching links and enable us to develop close relationships with other EQUIS accredited institutions."

Professor Palmer said the experience of guiding the faculty through the EQUIS accreditation process was a challenge and major learning exercise.

She acknowledged the leadership of Professor Owen Hughes, Deputy Dean (Education), and Mr David Watson, Director of Accreditation, as well as the hard work of all staff in the faculty.

Monash joins 84 business schools worldwide to have successfully proceeded through the rigorous EQUIS accreditation process.
