hi my name is max. it a good shot but this example is not completely correct. the factor to make the back grown black like that is the different of how strong are the light on the subject and the background.
First compose the shot "see how you want the the shot look like" if you don't have the handheld light meter use the camera.
2nd.Move the camera closer to the subject and then see the reading on the light meter. Then move camera closer to the back ground or behind the subject and the see the meter reading if the different of the 2 reading greater than 3 stop mean if subject is 1/60 at f/16 and any thing behind subject is 1/60 at /5.6 that is perfect to shoot move back to the fist position and shoot but if the reading are not like the example use the reflector to increase the intensity of light on subject. IMPORTANT it will help if you have an extra lighting equipment like detachable flash or reflector and it would be even better if you don't have to use flash in this photograph. Enjoy
