3. Abstract Nouns เป็นคำนามของสิ่งที่ไม่มีรูปร่าง ไม่สามารถสัมผัสได้ด้วยประสาททั้ง 5 (touch- สัมผัสได้, sight-มองเห็นได้, taste-ชิมได้, hearing- ได้ยิน, smell- ได้กลิ่น) เป็นนามที่บอกลักษณะ สภาวะ อาการ เมื่อแปลเป็นภาษาไทยมักจะมีคำว่า ความ การนำหน้าอยู่ด้วยรวมทั้งชื่อศิลปวิทยาการต่างๆ

Abstract Nouns จะมีที่มาจากคำกริยา (verb) ,คำคุณศัพท์ ( adjective) และ คำนาม ( noun) ด้วยกันเองบ้าง เช่น

1.Abstract Nouns ที่มาจากคำกริยา :

decision - to decide/ thought - to think/ Imagination - to imagine/ speech - to speak/ growth - to grow etc.

2. Abstract Nouns ที่มาจากคำคุณศัพท์ :

beauty – beautiful/ poverty – poor/ vacancy – vacant/ happiness – happy/ wisdom – wise etc.

3. Abstract Nouns ที่มาจากคำนาม :

infancy – infant/ childhood – child/ friendship – friend etc.
