All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go...
LEAVING ON A JET PLANE
John Denver -Cherry Lane Music Publishing Co., Inc. -ASCAP
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go I'm standing here outside your door I hate to wake you up to say goodbye But the dawn is breakin', it's early morn The taxi's waiting, he's blowin' his horn Already I'm so lonesome I could cry.
Chorus: So kiss me and smile for me Tell me that you'll wait for me Hold me like you'll never let me go. I'm leavin' on a jet plane I don't know when I'll be back again Oh, babe, I hate to go.
There's so many times I've let you down So many times I've played around I tell you now, they don't mean a thing Every place I go, I think of you Every song I sing, I sing for you When I come back, I'll wear your wedding ring.
(Chorus)
Now the time has come to leave you One more time let me kiss you Then close your eyes, I'll be on my way. Dream about the days to come When I won't have to leave alone About the times, I won't have to say,
(Chorus)
It's the charming of '60s, I love this track esp. the first line of the song.
Thanks to Peter Paul and Mary web site, I got some clues and fact. It's first recorded in Album 1700.
And the liner notes memerized about them as below.
ALBUM LINER NOTES
PETER, PAUL AND MARY STANDING IN A ROW MILLION CONCERTS LATER, STEADY ON THE GO.
PETER, PAUL AND MARY LONG AGO THEY MET. BACK IN SIXTY-SOMETHIN' AIMED AT SIXTY-YET.
WITH THEIR HAMMERIN' AND BLOWIN' PUFFIN' AND THE REST, A GOOD THING THAT GOT BETTER GOT RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE BEST.
AND HANDED DOWN SOME HEAVYWEIGHT IDEAS ON OUR HEADS IN ALBERT HALL AND CARNEGIE OR CARS WITH NEWLYWEDS; IN ROOMS WITH JUST TWO PEOPLE, THEN IN BALLPARKS WITH THE PREZ.
THE FOLK BAG KEEPS ON FLOWIN', HEAVY ELSEWHERE AS WELL AS HERE. AND THE FOLK BAG KEEPS ON GROWIN' SINCE MORE FOLKS ARE GETTING NEAR TO GETTING NEAR EACH OTHER IN A WAY THAT STILL AIN'T CLEAR.
BUT THE PICTURE COMES TO FOCUS ON WHAT SOME FOLKS HOLD DEAR, AND THE PROSPECT OF ITS VALUE BEING LESSENED BY THE FEAR THAT NOTHING IS FOR CERTAIN, WHICH IS CERTAINLY THE CASE WHEN BOMBS AND ICE-BLUE-SOMETHING HAVE OCCUPIED A RACE.
BUT THE RACE IS ON TO BETTER THINGS THAN ARMPITS AND ARMS RACE. AND THE BIRDS ARE OFF THE GREASE PAINT, ONTO SHOWING US THEIR FACE.
WHICH ALL BEGAN SOME YEARS AGO WITH SEEGER AND THE REST, WITH WOODY'S GUSTY VIEWPOINT AND WITH MUDDY'S CLEAR UNREST.
SOMETHING TRAVELED MANY HIGHWAYS FULL OF HEARTACHES AND BADTIMES THEN GOT INTO A BRAND NEW SUIT THAT SUITED BRAND NEW CHIMES.
WHICH CHIMES CONTINUE RINGING IN A HUNDRED DIFFERENT WAYS; THROUGH AMPS AND THROUGH GARDENIAS, AND BENDING NOTES AND PHRASE.
SO THE GUITAR WAS THE ANSWER, YOU COULD TAKE IT WHEN YOU WENT. AND YOU KNEW YOU HAD TO GO AS SOON AS SOMETHING IN YOU WENT.
AND YOU ALSO TOOK A RADIO THAT YOU HELD UP TO YOUR EAR, A LITTLE THING MADE SOMEWHERE WE DIDN'T ALWAYS HOLD SO DEAR. WHICH MIGHT HAVE MADE YOU WONDER JUST EXACTLY WHAT GOES ON WITH MISERABLE HISTORY, WITH FATHER AND HIS SON.
WELL, HIPS HARPS STILL COME FROM GERMANY, AS DID BRAHMS, BEETHOVEN, BACH. ALL OF WHICH SCREAMS OUT OF THEM IN THE FOLK BLUES RAGA ROCK. SO DRINK A TOAST TO EVERYTHING SINCE NOTHING IS FOR SURE AND TIP YOUR GLASS TO THREE OF THEM WHO HELP THE THING ENDURE.
Later on, the song was included in the "Ten Years Together" album.
The Best Of Peter, Paul and Mary chronicles a decade of recordings from a group that, more than any other, brought folk music sensibilities into the popular music mainstream. Combining ringing harmonies framing a consistently tasteful and moving song selection, with a commitment to social and political issues, Peter, Paul and Mary did much to define the new musical direction of the 60s.
Formed in Greenwich Village, the trio consisted of Cornell educated Peter Yarrow, erstwhile Village comedian, Noel Paul Stookey and Mary Travers, who at age 14, was a member of the Songswappers, a folk group that recorded with Pete Seeger. Peter, Paul and Mary's first album, released in 1962, featured the double-sided hit "Lemon Tree" and "If I Had A Hammer." "500 Miles" was another stand-out cut from their debut LP.
In 1963, Peter, Paul and Mary had three Top Ten hits in a row with "Puff (The Magic Dragon)" and Bob Dylan's originals, "Blowin' In The Wind" and "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right". In The Wind, an LP released late that year, hit Number One, while "Stewball" and "For Lovin' Me" both reached Top 40 chart positions.
Album 1700, released in 1967, the group's fifth million-seller, featured a whole new side of the trio with the hit "I Dig Rock And Roll Music". Dylan's "Too Much Of Nothing" and Peter Yarrow's "Day Is Done" were two more Top 40 hits for the group in 1967 and 1969 respectively. Peter, Paul and Mary's last hit, John Denver's "Leaving On A Jet Plane" reached Number One in the winter of 1969. The songs of Ten Years Together highlight a decade of association by one of the most influential groups of that era.
However, i can't find the original track, got only the more often listening covered version which is one of the Armageddon soundtracks. I hate the movie , but it doesn't matter with the song.
The singer is Chantel Kreviazuk. She's pretty and got beautiful voice, similar to Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan or Natalie Imbruglia.
