CNN: PM: Well, of course,, I was in the car. Although I must say I’ve had two similar but maybe less serious incidents of the same kind. CNN: Was there any point at which you were worry for you life? ในขณะนั้นรู้สึกเป็นกังวลถึงชีวิตบ้างมั้ยครับ
PM: Well, I mean, there’s no questions that my life was seriously threaten. คือ...มันไม่มีข้อสงสัยเลยครับว่าชีวิตผมตกอยู่ในอันตราย
CNN: Regarding to the news this morning there’d been an assassination attempt on the leader of the yellow shirts, Sondhi Limthongkul, people will look at that and worry is.., you know, is Thailand sliding toward total chaos…. จากข่าวเมื่อเช้านี้ ได้มีการพยายามลอบสังหารผู้นำกลุ่มเสื้อเหลือง สนธิ ลิ้มทองกุล คนเขาจะมองและเป็นกังวลว่าเมืองไทยกำลังเคลื่อนตัวเข้าสู่ความวุ่นวายไม่สิ้นสุดหรือเปล่า
PM Well, any..any violent incident should be avoided and we are not taking the case lightly and I ask for a swift investigation. At the same time I want to be clear that we should not jump to conclusions and we should not allow this to lead to even more widespread.. you know…confrontations. เราต้องหลีกเลี่ยงเหตุการณ์ความรุนแรงทุกชนิด และเราไม่คิดว่ากรณีนี้เป็นเรื่องเล็ก ผมได้สั่งให้มีการสอบสวนอย่างรวดเร็ว ในขณะเดียวกันผมอยากทำให้ชัดเจนว่าเราไม่ควรด่วนสรุป และเราไม่ควรยอมให้กรณีนี้นำพาไปสู่การเผชิญหน้าที่แพร่ขยายมากขึ้น
CNN: Do you think some of the heat of this situation could be taken away by calling a election?
PM: You know I was ask this question for…for a few… for a last few months I have said that I have put as a priority a period of stability, carrying out a commitment as Asian chair, putting in place some basics of economic policy to protect the poor and people who lose job from the recession and also political reform. After all my opponents are calling for the rules to be changed and if we held the election now it will be under the existing rules which they do not ..err..they do not support and it will just get us back into the same situation. So wouldn’t it make sense to change the rules first to every body satisfaction and let have the election after? ผมได้รับคำถามนี้มา.หลายครั้ง ในหลายเดือนที่ผ่านมาผมได้พูดว่าเราจะให้ความสำคัญต่อการมีช่วงเวลาที่สงบ ,การทำหน้าที่ในฐานะประธานอาเซียน, การสร้างรากฐานของนโยบายเศรษกิจเพื่อปกป้องคนยากจน และคนที่ตกงานเนื่องจากการถดถอยทางเศรษกิจ รวมไปถึงการปฏิรูปทางการเมือง เพราะจริงๆแล้วนั้นฝ่ายตรงข้ามผมเป็นผู้ที่เรียกร้องให้มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงกฏ หากเรามีการเลือกตั้งใหม่ตอนนี้ มันก็จะต้องเป็นไปตามกฏเดิมซึ่งเป็นกฏที่พวกเขาไม่เห็นด้วย และมันก็จะนำเรากลับไปสู่สถานการณ์เดิมๆอีก ดังนั้นแล้วจะไม่เป็นการดีกว่าหรือหากเราเปลี่ยนกฏให้ทุกคนพอใจแล้วจึงให้มีการเลือกตั้งใหม่
CNN:Finally, Thaksin Shinawatra, The former prime minister called at one point for a revolution. He then appeared to be back track once violence happened and said that there should not be a political violence. I mean he seems to be displaying in that interview that, you know, he didn’t want violence. PM: Well, you have to make a distinction between what he said before and after the events and before he was clearly calling for all kinds of actions that can only be interpreted as inciting violence. It’s very sad for a former leader of a country to be prepared to go to that length to actually destroy the opportunity that our people and this country had in getting out of this crisis in a peaceful fashion. คือคุณต้องแยกให้ชัดเจนระหว่างสิ่งที่เขาพูดก่อนและหลังเหตุการณ์ (ความรุนแรง) และก่อนนี้เขาเรียกร้องให้ผู้ชุมนุมทำสิ่งต่างๆและสามารถแปลความหมายได้อย่างเดียวว่าเขากำลังยั่วยุให้เกิดความรุนแรง มันเป็นเรื่องน่าเศร้าที่อดีตผู้นำของประเทศพร้อมที่จะทำขนาดนั้นเพื่อที่จะทำลายโอกาสของประชาชนและประเทศที่จะผ่านวิกฤตครั้งนี้ด้วยวิธีอันสันติ
CNN: I mean if you would go as far as..I mean..is he a terrorist in the eye of the government now? คุณจะไปไกลถึงขนาด...ผมหมายถึงว่า.... ในสายตาของรัฐบาลเขาเป็นผู้ก่อการร้ายหรือเปล่า
PM: I must say for a number of moments during the last few days a lot of people felt there were almost acts of terrorism and somebody outside of the country was calling for it. ผมต้องบอกว่าในหลายๆครั้งในช่วงเวลาไม่กี่วันที่ผ่านมา คนจำนวณมากรู้สึกว่าสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นเกือบจะเป็นการกระทำของผู้ก่อการร้าย และมีใครบางคนที่อยู่ต่างประเทศคอยบงการ
