Half a Person : The Smiths And if you have five seconds to spare Then I'll tell you the story of my life .... เพลงโปรดของวงโปรดดังขึ้นอีกครั้ง มันเป็นเวลาตีหนึ่งกว่า นั่งทำงานอยู่คนเดียว และสงสัยว่า มีความยุติธรรมจริงหรือไม่ เวลาที่เซ็ทให้ไอพ๊อดเล่นเพลงแบบสลับ (shuffle) ที่สงสัยเป็นเพราะว่า จำได้ลาง ๆ ได้ยินเพลงนี้ ไม่นานมานี้เองนะ ทุกครั้งที่ได้ยินรู้สึกบอกไม่ถูก ฟังเพลงนี้ครั้งแรกนานมาแล้ว จากคำแนะนำของคนที่อยู่ข้าง ๆ ในตอนนั้น ฟังครั้งแรก ไม่แน่ใจว่าชอบไหม แต่มั่นใจว่า บุคคลที่แนะนำมีอิทธิพลมหาศาลต่อชีวิต หลายวันต่อมา จึงนั่งฟังอัลบั้ม Louder Than Bombs ของ The Smiths ฟังแล้วฟังอีก จนจำเนื้อร้องทำนองได้แม่นเลย อาจจะเป็นเพราะยังเด็กจึงถูกหว่านล้อมง่าย หรืออาจจะเป็นเพราะรัก ------------------------------------------- เพลง Half a Person จริง ๆ แล้ว ไม่ได้อยู่ใน studio albums ไหน ๆ ของ The Smiths เป็นเพลง B-Side ของซิงเกิ้ล Shoplifters of the World Unite ซึ่งออกวางขายในปี 1987 แล้วจึงถูกนำมาใส่ในอัลบั้มรวมฮิตทั้งหลายของ The Smiths ทีหลัง เนื้อเพลงของเพลงนี้ ได้เป็นที่ถกเถียงกันมานานในหลายเรื่อง ทำไมต้องเป็น YWCA ล่ะ ก็ Morrissey เป็นผู้ชายไม่ใช่เหรอ (หรือไม่ใช่?) แล้วยังจะเรื่องที่จะขอเป็น Backscrubber คนถูหลังอีก มีความหมายอะไรแอบแฝงอยู่หรือไม่ ไหนจะความพยายามของแฟน ๆ ที่จะหาความหมายของประโยคที่ว่า "Six full years of my life on your trail" หมายถึงใคร และบริบทอะไร บ้างก็ว่า เพลงนี้ เป็นการร้องแทนผู้หญิงคนหนึ่ง บ้างก็ว่า เพลงนี้ แสดงความรักของผู้ชายต่อหญิงสาวคนหนึ่งที่เค้าพร้อมจะทำทุกอย่างให้ได้อยู่ใกล้ บ้างก็ว่า เพลงนี้ แสดงความอยากเป็นผู้หญิงของ Morrissey บ้างก็ว่า เป็นแค่หนึ่งในตลกร้าย มีผู้ชายคนไหนบ้าง ที่ไม่อยากจะทำงานเป็นคนคอยถูหลังสาว ๆ ใน YWCA ... ก็ว่ากันไป เนื้อเพลงทุกเพลงก็มีความหมายแตกต่างไป แล้วแต่คนฟังจะตีความตามประสบการณ์และความเห็นส่วนตัวอยู่แล้ว และสำหรับเรา จากการเป็นเด็กสาวที่ sixteen, clumsy and shy กลับกลายมาเป็น six full years of my life on your trail นั้น เป็นเรื่องจริงที่เกิดขึ้นไปแล้วในชีวิตจริงของเราเอง เหมือนเป็นตลกร้ายที่สุดของชีวิต ที่ทำให้ทุกครั้งที่ได้ยินเพลงนี้ แล้วร่างกายมีปฏิกิริยาตอบสนองที่ผิดปกติ ทำอะไรไม่ถูก ใจสั่น เศร้า คิดถึง ปนเปสับสนกันไปหมด นี่ก็ึคงเป็นเพราะรักเหมือนกัน ------------------------------------------- Half a Person - The Smiths Call me morbid, call me pale I've spent six years on your trail Six long years On your trail Call me morbid, call me pale I've spent six years on your trail Six full years of my life on your trail And if you have five seconds to spare Then I'll tell you the story of my life : Sixteen, clumsy and shy I went to London and I I booked myself in at the Y ...
